It was originally the third song on _Agents of Fortune_, with a running time
of 5:08.
It may also be on other compilation CDs or live CDs, including _Career of
Evil_ and _Some Enchanted Evening_.

"Career of Evil" (subtitled "The Metal Years") is a lousy compilation
of BOC that favors their "heaviest"--but not necessarily best--material.
"Some Enchanted Evening" is a live album. Better to wait until later
this summer, when Columbia plans to release a 2CD "definitive" BOC

My desire to get the song was the same as yours - I heard it on
"The Stand," and remembered it from my childhood & wanted to get it
again. I suppose the $3 I dropped on the CD wasn't all that much, but
I was disappointed nonetheless.
Good luck finding it.

If you aren't a Blue Oyster Cult fan,
another possibility would be to get one of several compilations
which contain "Reaper" and a number of other 70's-era album-rock hits.
I can't recall which one my SO finally ended up with, but it had about
half a dozen other nostalgic tunes on it which we enjoy far more
than we would have enjoyed more Blue Oyster Cult tracks. It was from
Columbia Special Products, I think.
Check "phonolog" or the MUZE computer databases which are, at least in
Michigan, springing up like weeds at local record shops.

In the Bay Area, it is relatively easy to find used copies of a series
of compilations co-sponsored by radio station KOME (each volume had a
different co-sponsor paired with KOME). The series is collectively
titled "KOME Classics" and it is commendable in that it includes full-
length album versions of its selections. I have the volume that is
co-sponsored by Carl's Jr. (it's a pretty weird-looking package...)
and its contents are:
Eight Miles High .................... The Byrds '66
Brown Eyed Girl ..................... Van Morrisson '67
I Got a Line on You ................. Spirit '69
Maggie May .......................... Rod Stewart '71
I Just Want to Celebrate ............ Rare Earth '71
All the Young Dudes ................. Mott the Hoople '72
Conquistador ........................ Procol Harum '72
Hold Your Head Up ................... Argent '72
Long Cool Woman (in a Black Dress) .. The Hollies '72
Free Ride ........................... Edgar Winter Group '73
Rock and Roll, Hoochie Koo .......... Rick Derringer '74
Don't Fear the Reaper ............... Blue Oyster Cult '76
"Maggie May" includes the mandolin introduction off of the album;
"Hold Your Head Up" is the complete version with the organ solo;
etc. etc. I don't know how readily you could find this outside of
the Bay Area, but it's worth looking for.

Speaking of covers - does anyone know where to retrieve the cover-version,
that was played by Big Country?

The same disc is available as "sponsored" by stations all over the
place. I've got this exact same track lineup on a disc "put-out"
by WRDU (Raleigh,NC). It's also part of a (probably the same) series.
