There are a growing number of home studios and producers and alot of
these producers are making beats with computer software programs. I
started make beats on the MPC 2000. Its actually a hardware sampler
that I used along with keyboards to create rap instrumentals. Thats
where I got most of my skill from but you really don't need all of the
hardware samplers and keyboards that you may have needed ten years
ago. Now a days as technology gets better and computers get more
powerful making beats with computer software will get easier and
easier.
I have couple different software programs that I use right now, I
started out with the FL Studios version 4. I made some ok beats with
this program. This is probably the best place to start when you are
going to start learning how to make rap instrumentals. I say that for
a couple of different reasons. One is that its very affordable. If
your budget is low than you don't have to get the most expensive
software. Also Fruity Loops is not that hard of a program to use. Its
pretty simple to start making beats once you figure it out. One thing
that you will have to do with this program though is invest in a sound
library and some vst plugins because the sounds that it comes with are
not very good.
Another program that I use is called Reason 3.0. Its got great sound
quality and it comes with sounds so you don't have to invest in more
although you may still want to in order to sound fresh and new. This
program is a bit more expensive then the Fruity Loops program and it
is harder to learn at first. But when you do learn this program you
will be making some top notch rap instrumentals. Most of the rap
instrumentals found on our website were made from these two software
programs we swear by them.
So if your interested in making your own rap instrumentals on your
computer I would start with Fruity Loops,.then when your skills get
better try upgrading to a more advanced program.
