Pianist Tim Lyddon To Perform at Sweet Rhythm in Manhattan
New York, NY, June 4, 2004: New York based pianist Tim Lyddon and his trio
featuring bassist Martin Wind and drummer Bill Goodwin will perform a jazz
concert at Sweet Rhythm on Wednesday, July 7th, 2004, (8pm and 10pm) to
support Mr. Lyddon's latest release on his EssenceJazz label, Shades Of
People.
His compelling and distinctive style engages a sensibility of enormous
breadth, encompassing the classic American song form, and the harmonic
innovations of the post-bop era, offering "..a light touch that allows for a
certain resonance, meaning that his lines - often little snippets of pure
melody - are flecked with intrigue." (Macnie) Village Voice. Mr. Lyddon
has performed and toured with jazz artists such as flutist Sam Most, the
Dick Berk Quartet, Chuck Flores Quintet, bassist Jeff Berlin, vocalist Herb
Jeffries and drummers Eliot Zigmund and Bill Goodwin.
Bassist Martin wind has performed with Clark Terry, Bill Charlap and
Pat Metheny among others. Recently he has recorded 3 Cds with pianist Bill
Mays and is a faculty member of NYU.
Drummer Bill Goodwin has performed with Bill Evans, Dexter Gordon,
Gary Burton and Phil Woods. He has produced all of Phil Woods recordings
since 1980 as well as several Tom Harrell recordings. Bill was Omnisounds'
main producer of jazz product.
".the trio has come together as one entity which reveals how dynamic an
entity can be." Dan Karcher, WBGO-FM (Jazz 88)
"Lyddon's "I've Traveled So Far" is a quiet gem, one that impresses more and
more with each hearing." - Larry Nai (ejazznews)
"With an engaging light as a feather, block-chord touch, pianist Tim Lyddon
spins out original and standard compositions in the piano trio format. Even
in a congested market, Lyddon makes a strong case for his rendering of the
piano trio." - Michael Bailey (All About Jazz).
" He's armed with a slightly irreverent sense of humor that is sprinkled
throughout Shades of People. It's safe to say Lyddon never met a motif he
could'nt weave into the fabric of an intro. He does it on all six standards
and each is a delight.
JAZZ TIMES May 2004
