Yes, it is! I've been listening to it for 42 years. I bought the single 
when it was released and I still have it. I bought the album (British 
version, in the box with the book) when it was released. I've played 
them backwards and forwards hundreds maybe thousands of times, and I 
know for sure: both solos are audible on both versions, and what you're 
faintly hearing is the album solo. There's no slide guitar, it's a 
bent-by-fingers note, and you hear it at the end of the album version, 
too.
