I've never noticed that Peter Max did any artwork at all.

Wait... maybe he did. Somewhere in storage, I'm positive that I have a
bright yellow sweatshirt with the psychedelic designs of Peter Max, and
words saying, "All You Need is Love".

Peter Max didn't do any Beatles art. He does usually get credit for Yellow
Submarine art by people without knowledge of the history of the movie but in
reality he didn't draw even a teenie weenie meanie.

I know that he didn't do Yellow Submarine. But I do remember that
sweatshirt with his name on it as the artist. There were no drawings
from Yellow Submarine, but I'm pretty sure that I remember a weird
profile of a person in it somewhere. And I also remember it saying "All
You Need is Love". It's in deep storage, otherwise I'd pull it out to
take a look.

It still isn't artwork, as far as I understand the term.

If he did some art and it is printed on a sweatshirt, how is that not
artwork? If I wore it and walked around holding a frame, would it then
be artwork... as far as you understand the term? :]

I think Dale doesn't care for Max's "style." ;-)

Oh, okay. I took an IQ test today which said I'm *highly* intelligent.
But THIS one I couldn't figure out. :/ (Shoot, if only this had
something to do with patterns or mathematics.)

It has nothing to do with being framed, and everything to do with being
empty, eye-porn crap.

Certainly, but it isn't only that I don't like looking at it. His work
was empty (of significance beyond the merely cute or pretty) even in
pop-art terms. An album or tee-shirt illustrator for the 60s crowd? Sure
- no problem. As an artist with anything to say except "hey! look over
here, I'm bright and acidic!" no...

Personally I liked it at the time and I like it even now, just
nostaglically.

He just opened a gallery in San jose and in the ads I notice he also
features finer art he's done, tho if it were any better than any other
illustrator I couldn't say.

Peter did something featuring the Beatles from inside the Sgt. Pepper's'
gatefold cover for People magazine June 22,1987...

Most prominately on the cover were the Sgt. Pepper Beatles adorned with
the typical Maxian flourishes and smaller shots of the lion Morrison,
wailing Joplin, and salutin Uncle Sam Garcia.

The issue was "Celebrating the '60s' Summer Of Love".

Don't be fooled by a search of Beatles Peter Max items on ebay - the
Yellow Sub stuff was all cartooned out by a different team altogether...

Peter Max did a Time magazine cover back in 1976 that featured the Wings Over
America tour.

Not to my knowledge. I dated his ex long ago. I did admire his cover for
the group "Yes" though. Of course, Roger Dean's work was more my style.
Don't tell him.....;-)

Which album cover did he do?

???

I can understand not liking his stuff, but what specifically makes it
'not art'?

It's the one that has the song "The Calling" on it. It's very simplistic; a
blend of primary colors for the most part but sometimes less is better.

I'm sorry. I haven't been online much lately. I'm knee deep in alligators
with projects here and there. When you work on a computer 10 hours a day
and then go home, you tend to wanna stay away from the things when you're
at home. I miss you guys though so I'll try to be more consistent in my
visits. I may be a weekend warrior for awhile.

Why? Does it sound like a good name for a band or something?
