I love this song by Judy Henske. The Jefferson Airplane do a nice
version. Does anyone else know any good versions.

I'm currently plotting out a compilation of High songs and want to
include a different version than Judy Henske's

Probably the best known cover version is this one:

There were also cover versions by the Au Go-Go Singers (vocal by
Steven Stills), the We Five, Carolyn Hester, H.P. Lovecraft, and Gram
Parsons. It's also been recorded by Billy Edd Wheeler, the writer of
the song.

Of course, Ritchie Havens. Thanks khematite,I had forgotten all about
this version. I think it beats the Airplanes, for sure.

And thanks for the tip about the Au Go-Go Singers. I see there's a cd
out that includes their version.

I've got versions of the song by Maggie Hammond and Ill Wind but I
suspect they won't be as good as the more famous versions.

If you want to download "I Feel So High" by Daniel Johnston, I know a
secret link that I really shouldn't be giving out:

Let's see... what others come to mind right offhand...

Hi Hi Hi, Flying High Again, Eight Miles High, Because I Got High...
Okay, I'm getting TOO high now.

You're kidding! I had assumed that was what you were thinking about
when you decided to post this here! (Unless you were really picky
about spelling!)

I posted here because of all the knowledgeable people here. When I
searched for "high" songs, I forgot to search for "hi"

Same thing happened with High Flying Bird when I forgot to search for
"flyin' bird"

My brain has reached the point where I can no longer remember songs.
Good thing computers have this Search function.

Thanks Nil

I have a Jesse Colin Young song called "Higher and Higher" but I suspect
its different from the Moody Blues

Steve Wonder's Too High is essential. It's a good thing I've got the
Blind Boys of Alabama doing "Higher Ground."

It's not clear what, exactly your theme is. If it's simply songs with
the word "high" in the title, that doesn't seem to be a very meaningful
theme. If it's about altered states of consciousness, these could
qualify:

The Statue Got Me High - They Might Be Giants
Let's Go Get Stoned - Ray Charles (or Joe Cocker)
I Think I'm Flying - 12 Rods
Stoned (Part 1) - Lewis Taylor
Stoned Soul Picnic - Laura Nyro
Itchycoo Park - Small Faces

What drives my compilations is more than just a theme, like altered
states of consciousness. I go after the word, but choose songs whose
metaphorical meaning enhances the collection of songs.

Forinstance, Jerry Lee Lewis's High School Confidential would not seem
to fit at all, except that the word "High" keeps getting repeated in the
song, and high school is something that is high, higher than grade
school and junior high school.

Elvis Costello's High Fidelity is another one which I think fits here.
Besides, they are both great songs.

I do have Jerry Lee's song on my school compilation, but that's not a
real compilation because it is just theme related.
