The idea is not just to celebrat John Lennon but also to create
awareness of the need for peace in the world.
I don't want to rain on your parade, but since there is a UN
International Day of Peace occurring yearly on September 21st, it
would seem very unlikely that international body would want another
day of peace.
I wrote about this in another thread recently, but to summarize
briefly...back in the early 1980s, several radio stations(e.g. WBN,
Boston) had a campaign to start a John Lennon Day Of Peace on October
9th of each year. They gathered hundreds of names on petitions with
the intention of presenting the petitions to the UN Secretary-
General. While in the middle of that campaign, they discovered that
an International Day of Peace, sanctioned by the UN, started on
September 21st 1981...to be celebrated thereafter on September 21st.
The petition gathering stopped at that point.
