I don't know if you guys really give a rat's ass, but here's a NASA
picture of the earth at night I thought was cool:

I've had that one hanging around for a while now. It's really cool what you
can tell about an area just by the lights. Africa, South America, and
Siberia, for instance, are quite dark. Australia, most of the lights are on
the coast. The light density decreases in Europe from West to East. The US
is one big energy hog.

Cool. Thanks for pointing me to that again.

Ever noticed the one little cluster of lights near the north pole?
(Go straight up from Canada and look for it.) Every time I look at this pic I
wonder to myself "Who the hell is that???"

What do you mean? It's either Santa Claus or Superman.

Oh, by the way, I'm in the third light blob from the bottom on the right
hand side of australia (about half way up the east coast).... that's
brisbane.

As always, I remain...

"Nuclear weapons also have an irresistible magnetism. When one has nuclear
weapons, others start pointing theirs at one. Since most of the Australian
population is crowded into cities easily recognised from tourist brochures,
we feel this would be unwise. What? Yes, sir, you may feel that the
wankers in Sydney would be no great loss, but many of them live in key
electorates. Besides, it would only take one nuclear unpleasantness and
Australia would consist of nothing but charming rural hamlets such as your
own, and Canberra."

Its Hitler's last, secret base, where his disembodied head (immersed in a
nutrient bath) plots its final conquest of the earth.

Either that or its superman.

Hmmm...any info on how the picture was produced? Time-lapse, I'm
guessing (nevermind, I see the link for this part, but it spurs more
questions)? At what time of day? Which season? Obviously there are
population density differences between countries and regions, but I'm
wondering what other factors might be coming into things.
