The Doors were one of my top five bands... they, along
with Hendrix, are my first entries into what I considered
'hard rock' at the time.

Jim Morrison had a 'manly mans' voice that can rarely be
equaled. I was also saddened at the passing of Alvin Lee
as Ten Years After was a favorite band of mine too.

I still am seeing reports that it's a hoax - and have yet to see it in mainstream
media... Any word on that?

It was all over the mainstream media on Monday, so unfortunately it
seems to be genuine.
