According to Aerosmith's guitarist Joe Perry, Tyler has quit the band
and isn't on speaking terms with anybody.
He tells the Las Vegas Sun, "Steven quit as far as I can tell. I don't
know any more than you do about it. I got off the plane two nights
ago. I saw online that Steven said that he was going to leave the
band. I don't know for how long, indefinitely or whatever. Other than
that, I don't know."
Perry blames Tyler's lack of communication for the split saying, "He's
notorious for that. That's one thing I've learned to live with. I try
to overlook it. I like to pick my battles.
"Frankly, the last few months I've been wanting not to rock the boat.
I don't want him canceling any more gigs. We really wanted to do these
last four. We just kind of didn't want to call him out or anything and
get him anymore p**sed off, for whatever reason. So we just let things
lie.
"So we did the gigs and, like I said, I got off the plane and saw this
online. That's how I know about it... He has had no contact with me or
the other band members."
Perry added that the group will go on with or without Tyler. He adds,
"Right now I'm adjusting to how we're going to go on. Aerosmith is
such a powerful band, I mean it's like a steam locomotive. You just
can't disregard 40 years of four guys who play together as well as
they do. We're just trying to - at least I am - trying to figure out
what direction the band should take.
"As far as replacing Steve, it's not just about that, it's also four
guys that play extremely well together, and I'm not going to see that
go to waste. I really don't know what path it's going to take at this
point, but we'll probably find somebody else that will sing in those
spots where we need a singer and then we'll be able to move the
Aerosmith up a notch, move the vibe up a notch."
The group has been fighting rumors of a split for almost a year now
after cancelled tour dates, injuries and accidents.

Maybe they can get a guy to wear a Steven Tyler mask and call him the
Steven Man or some shit.

At their respective ages, I think it's time to retire..
Nothing says they can't record... but, Tyler probably hurt himself bad when he
took that tumble... he's no spring chicken.
LOL!!!!!!
AEROSMITH guitarist Joe Perry was interviewed this morning (Monday,
November 9) by Chuck Nowlin of Boston's WZLX 100.7 radio station. The
chat can now be streamed using the audio player below. A few excerpts
from the conversation follow (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET).
On whether Steven Tyler has left AEROSMITH:
Perry: "I don't know. There hasn't been any communication with his
managers. He hasn't talked to anybody in the band. So [the report on
Classic Rock magazine's web site is] the only thing I've seen or
heard.
"Right after the [Abu Dhabi] show [on November 1], I jumped in the car
and went to the airport and flew to London for the Classic Rock Awards
show. And so we got back a couple of days later than everybody else
and when we plugged in and got online and saw [the Classic Rock
article], it was kinda... 'OK, well, I guess that's what he's doing.'
I knew we were gonna be taking some time off, but I guess he just
announced what he was gonna be doing during the time off."
On whether there was any talk with Steven at all during the recent
shows in Hawaii and Abu Dhabi, capital of the United Arab Emirates:
Perry: "No. He was off in his own dressing room, he stayed in
different hotels from the band, travelled on different planes. We
never saw him until we walked on stage on any of those shows."
On Steven telling Classic Rock magazine that he wants to concentrate
on "Brand Tyler:"
Perry: "I guess. That's what [the article] says. That's what he's
gonna do. I guess. Maybe we'll get a telegram from him; I don't know.
"Like I've been saying since the tour got cancelled, we're gonna be on
hiatus. He was like that during the [ill-fated AEROSMITH] tour [with
ZZ TOP], too. I mean, he was pretty much travelling on his own, with
his own group of people. So there really wasn't much talk about what
was going on. And after he fell off the stage the second time [in
Sturgis], I don't think he was physically up to finishing the tour —
even if he hadn't broken his shoulder. I knew we were gonna be off for
a while, so that was it. And I guess he's announced what he's gonna do
online.
"I've been pretty verbal about what I'm doing [referring to his
recently released solo album. — Ed.]. I've told the [other] guys [in
AEROSMITH], I've played them the record — at least gave them the
record. I know Brad's [Whitford; guitar] listened to it, I don't know
if the other guys have. But I never let it get in the way of
[AEROSMITH]. But... that's life."
On whether any of the new AEROSMITH album has been recorded and
whether Steven completed any vocals for the new songs before the
recent tour:
Perry: "No. The only thing we have is a bunch of stuff that's been
left over from past records. Some of those [songs] we were gonna put
on the [next] album, but he didn't do any singing at all for this
record. I can't really understand that. We had some pretty good stuff
laid out, and working with [producer] Brendan O'Brien, I thought it
was gonna be a slam dunk, but for some reason, he just wasn't
interested."
On having AEROSMITH end this way after being together so long:
Perry: "Well, I don't really think... As long as we're still kicking,
it's not over. We'll probably get bored and come back. I don't what
everybody's gonna be doing. We've talked about getting someone else to
sing in the band, we've talked about just doing... I don't know...
whatever."
On whether they have anybody in mind as a replacement for Tyler:
Perry: "Not really. And the thing is, it can't be AEROSMITH with... at
least not the AEROSMITH that we know. For it to be valid and have
something real about it, it would have to be somebody that would bring
something to the party. It would be the four guys that have been
playing forever, and using that weapon with somebody that's got
[something] to bring in. But I don't know yet. We've really just kind
of got knocked back on our heels, and everybody is just kind of
settling back and figuring out what's going on."
On whether he or any of the other guys has reached out to Steven:
Perry: "I did call him when we were in Hawaii, because we had some
gigs that were offered to us to do in South America — like, three gigs
that we were gonna do in December. And I called him up and asked him
if he would consider doing them, and he hung up on me about halfway
through the conversation, so I kind of got the hint that he pretty
much wants to be alone and wants to do his own thing."
Tyler told Classic Rock magazine following the Middle East concert
that he intended to work on "Brand Tyler" instead of a new AEROSMITH
record for the foreseeable future, saying, "I don't know what I'm
doing yet, but it's definitely going to be something Steven Tyler:
working on the brand of myself — Brand Tyler."
Perry told the Las Vegas Sun that he believed Tyler had been planning
to leave for a while, saying, "Obviously he hasn't been giving 100
percent to this thing for a long time . . . To disregard his brothers
to the point where we have to find out about it on the Internet — it's
like, 'See you later, Bud.' I still care for him as a person, or at
least the person I used to know. But things change."

No one's going to give a fuck about Steven Tyler solo. Sounds like he has a

Sounds like this is going to turn ugly. Seems like I remember years
ago that Steven would get extremely jealous when Joe would do a solo
album and Joe just did one.

It certainly seems like it. It just seems entirely too easy for him
to pick up a damn phone and give the other four a call. It seems like
common courtesy.
It makes sense that Steven might feel that way and I really don't see
the point of a side project when I'm guessing that Joe's solo stuff
isn't that far removed from Aerosmith. It's not like he's itching to
put out a techno album that would totally not be in the Aerosmith
vein. I hope that all of this shit gets them to put together an
amazing album.
Do you have any of Joe's stuff? It's kind of different...
Remember how 'Bright Light Fright' would stand out from Aerosmith
ablums? They're kind of like 12 of them :)
Personally, I LOVED the Joe Perry Project - those 3 albums are top
shelf... This last one kind of has a rockabilly thing..
I have a couple of the JPP albums, but it's probably been 15 years
since I've listened to them.

It's been that long since I've bought an Aerosmith album.
I cut my TEETH on 'Once a Rocker, Always a Rocker' and 'I've got the
Rock and Rolls again'...
The first album was good, but, kind of undefined...
I've been listening to his last CD.. The one that opens with 'Shakin my
Cage'.... Nothing really to do with the JPP... but, interesting...

No question.... I don't even like what JPP put on the 'newer' version...
Ralph Morman was a cool singer.. but a bad drunk :)
It seems like Tyler re-wrote some non-sensical lyrics just to get a
credit...
"Cheesecake Baby???"
As for Aerosmith, they will find a "new singer", tour with him/her
(imagine a woman replacing Tyler) and fail. This is nothing more than
Tyler acting like a spoiled, drugged out brat. He won't be out for
long. He needs Aerosmith and vice versa.

Whatever happened to that show? I liked it a lot. I hate American
Idol, but that one was pretty good.
I think they ran out of interesting bands... The INXS season was okay -
but, I honestly didn't know enough of their material... Then that second
'Supernova' season just blew... A new band, mediocre players, and no
material.
I liked all of those kinds of 'Bands Reunited' shows...

I thought Supernova was good. I liked that Dilana chick. I was
pretty surprised that she didn't capitalize on that whole thing better
than she did. I was sure she would show up in a decent band
somewhere.

He does nothing for me, but I do like RHCP.
Honestly, that album he did with them (One Hot Minute) is my favorite by
them... But, that other band with Perry Farell is a total turn off..
I think Dave was pretty phenomenal in the early days of Jane's
Addiction, but he seems to have gone Hollywood. Still a good player,
but maybe tone the image down a tad.
