I got slacks and sweaters for work, and a $200 iTunes gift card from my

Granted, I've seen a lot of the simpler CGI kids' movies and I imagine

It's an archetypal story -- we've seen the basic gist of it many times
before -- and it's popcorn entertainment.
Besides, Cameron made a totally conservative film you may have heard
about -- Titanic. You know, the one where a bunch of poor people are
essentially sacrificed so the rich can save themselves?
No way he's got a liberal agenda.

I don't watch movies looking for a political message -- I watch them
for entertainment. My take on Avatar was that it was more
philosophical than political. Mostly I just really liked the visuals.
*shrug*
I read an article earlier this year that tried to make its case for
The Dark Knight being a "conservative film". The writer claimed that
Batman = Bush, in that Batman had to go around the law in his pursuit
of the Joker (who can't possibly be a stand in for OBL, because Batman
actually catches him in the end). But it was all OK because, just like
Bush, Batman kept us safe. And like Bush, Batman accepted the hatred
of the people and press willingly and nobly in order to get the job
done.
I mean, really.
Can people not put aside 2 hours to enjoy a film without getting
worked up over a supposed political meaning? I guess if Hollywood is
constantly pushing a liberal agenda, certain people should stay home
and watch their Rambo movies over and over again. Maybe throw Top Gun
in once in awhile so as not to get burned out.
I'll also note that this movie was put out by 20th Century Fox, and
that Murdoch stated he was "excited and moved" by it. Does that mean
that Fox is supporting a liberal agenda?

Since this discussion, I googled Avatar liberal propaganda. Do it

Some people actually go see movies to be entertained
It's something that I did a lot of before kids. Astrophotography,
actually. I have a Meade LX-200, but the electronics died on it
sometime in the last few years. They stopped repairing them, but the
astronomy club I used to belong to said they could probably fix it

The Speedy Gonzales cartoons were derogatory towards Mexicans.
Bugs Bunny dressing like a woman to entice Elmer Fudd or whoever was an overt
liberal Hollywood nod to homosexuality.

And ET was an allegory to Jesus Christ. And to some extent, Catholic
priests when he was poking the kids with that big red bulbous
finger...
I dig that. Are you saying that the messages of the films aren't
entertaining? I mean, if you want to sit there for two hours and
watch blue humanoid cats bounce around the screen and a bunch of
explosions, good for you. That's the level at which you're
entertained.
Don't begrudge the thinking audience of listening to, and analyzing,
the message...

So every movie has a "message" to you? Maybe you need to lighten up
and just enjoy popcorn entertainment for what it is.
How many people that have seen this movie do you really think are
walking out of it being totally indoctrinated to a supposedly liberal
agenda? They're not. They're going because it's in 3D/for the visual

That's ridiculous. These guys like Cameron craft a movie for ten
years and you're trying to tell me that the allegories between
unobtanium and some valued element on earth (take a guess) is
coincidental? The destruction of a planet and it's jungle inhabitants
for it's resources has no basis in reality? The almost verbatim
recital of "you're with us or you're against us"? The quasi-military
organization going a step over the line?
I remember when I used to watch movies and just take what is displayed
in front of me as the entire value of the entertainment. I guess it
was around high school or so when we started analyzing the classics in
class and movies as well when I realized that most movies have more to
them than just explosions and people walking around. Maybe you should
open your eyes to it. It's quite revealing...

All I did was proved that there IS a liberal slant to the movie. It
never hurts to open your eyes.
So let's take politics out of it for now. I'm a General Contractor,
and you know what I'm sick and tired of? Every Contractor in every
movie being portrayed as a scum bag that wants to fuck over a client,
pave over a rainforest, destroy a daycare to erect a condominium, etc.
Jesus Christ, if it weren't for GC's, there wouldn't be a fucking
place to view a godam movie.
And how come every movie for the past ten years has the black smart
good guy and the white evil guy and the white dumb good guy that tries
to help out the smart black good guy? And where are all these white
terrorists in real life?
That's the political correctness bleeding into the movies.
And I've noticed that there used to be a lot more movies and tv shows
about hot chicks that kick ass, not so much anymore.

I think most movies have a message unless they're gonzo porn. What
movie do you think DOESN'T have a message? If they don't have an
overt message, they're in there scene by scene.

I don't think someone walks in there a conservative and walks out a
liberal, but I think most people are exposed to it and don't realize
it, you're one, for example. And I don't think that Cameron was out
to change the world's thinking with the movie, but the elements were
decidedly liberal. It's the cumulative bombardment of the messages
that subliminally enter one's consciousness.
Maybe it's unintended (in this case), but the net result is the same.

Um, for starters...just about every comedy?
Honestly, I think there's too much confusion here about messages and

Nice try. I've been around long enough to not be swayed in any way by
seeing a movie. Like I said: popcorn entertainment.

You mean, it's kinda like how if enough pundits keep saying that Obama
was born in Kenya, or is a Muslim, or a commie, or hates
America...eventually others will believe it because they've been
bombarded with the messages?
Gotcha.

You're drawing battle lines over the obvious fact that there were
liberal messages in a movie? You're a little tightly wound, dontcha
think?
Sometimes, but not in this case.
Not to be a dick and belabor this, but take a look at this link:
I'm thinking if you listen to the video of Cameron this will probably
be the last post on this subject. If you're too lazy to go to the
link, he clearly points out that there is a message in the film about
destroying the planet as we are doing, which happens to be the current
liberal battle call.
Sorry I didn't find this sooner, it would have saved you all a lot of
effort and a little face trying to pretend that Cameron didn't put a
liberal message in his movie purposely.
VIEIRA: Yeah there's a love story and also there's a message about,
you know, greed and when people want a lot of things, imperialism. All
of that.
CAMERON: And how that tends to destroy the environment and so on. And
here they are doing the same thing on another pristine planet that
we've done here on earth. So it's a way, sort of looking back at
ourselves from this other world and seeing what we're doing here.
And sometimes a pickle is just a pickle, don't let it worry ya...

Sometimes, they just drag ya in.. :op

I already saw that interview, and what he said the story is about is a
far cry from being an anti-American, anti-military message as you
inferred in an earlier post.

Nothing to be sorry about man (you see what you see, that's your
right).
Saving the planet is not a liberal message (tho you're correct in
assuming liberals more so than other groups espouse that cause).
Now why is that? Maybe because 'they' know we've only got a single
planet to work with? What say you lr? Doesn't preserving ol' mother
earth make sense? In fact, doesn't that really transcend left/right?
Now as far as any message is concerned, this in my mind, is a 'quip'
or 'jab' from the writers of the movie for the sake of - fun - being
that its fiction, who in the world do they think they'll sway? If we
attach more than entertainent value to it, then maybe that's faulty
reasoning. For instance, Would you tell another:
'The best source of information on the topic is movie x' ???

When speaking politics, the far left tend to blow off the facts, so
I tend to throw out tons of support for my position. When the one

Public opinion...really? As I said in an earlier post, had you polled

If you're going to use public opinion as a way to "prove" the media is
liberal, the example applies.
Sidetracking would be something like, you know, claiming someone
thinks it's wrong for people to protest when he's never said that. You

Nice try -- I didn't say it leans to the right. I said if anything,
very generally speaking, it may be center right. Not once did I insist
as fact, as you have, that it leans any one way.
As I said before, I believe that the media does what its corporate/

favor a conservative agenda.

> Okay then, I'll say it this way so as to concede your point--
> Over 80% of the public sees the mainstream media as liberal.
> Very simple statement of FACT.
Which does not support your suggestion that the media is liberal.

Re-read it then.. or have someone read it to you, that the only
'gauge' there is, is opinion. You cannot show anything to the
contrary. Kiss sucks, Kiss is great, there's a God, there's not
a God, there's alien life out there, we're alone.. Over 80%
believe the media is liberal. Live with it, and the fact you are
one of the few.

Everything else is just diversionary and I'm not gonna restart
endless posts. Be happy, your desire to live in a socialist
country is quickly becoming true.

Chuckle, you're spanking their ass's with their own logic.
This thread kills me.

Regardless, you have no factual evidence to back up your claim that we
have a liberal media, which is where we started. I'll bet 80% believe
in a fairy tale man in the sky that will lead them to a better place
when they kick the bucket, but such delusions are not facts. They are
opinions and/or beliefs.

Sidetracking, huh? What does socialism have to do with your inability
to support your claim that we have a liberal media? Once again you
inject something into your post that has nothing to do with the topic.
You excel at red herrings, I'll give you that much.
Continue to be afraid of the liberal media, Hollywood, and the very,
very remote chance you'll ever be attacked/killed by an Islamic
terrorist. It really must suck to fear boogeymen.

And that is exactly what I claimed - "over 80% believe the media is
liberal".. I can continue to repeat that FACT, but you have no rebuttal
other than to say it ain't true. I'm still waiting for something from you to
show otherwise. While you are at it, maybe you can get FVH to point
out where Obama has been "too bipartisan".

There is nothing but facts in what I wrote. If you disagree, please
feel free to show otherwise rather than just to SAY otherwise.

Continue to make up stupid shit... it really helps your argument.
