The Way It Is "orignal" art work...

I have a question for someone....(now, pay attention, it could be YOU)

Was The Way It Is, with the original 'rare' artwork of the blurry accordion
playing Bruce ever released on CD? I'm trying to remember if CDs were that
hot then...(I know, I'm dating myself).

I have seen, and actually own, the LP with the original cover photo, but did
not think that it was ever put on a CD Jewel Case, but there is someone
auctioning such a CD on eBay... I was just wondering if it was a legitimate
item, or something this person 'created'.

While I can't vouch for the authenticity of what is being offered on E-bay, I
can confirm for you that RCA did indeed release two versions of the CD. I have
both copies sitting right here...

The original, catalog # PCD1-8058, has the blurred cover. The second, catalog
# PCD1-5904, has the familiar cover with Bruce and the original Range.
Interestingly enough, the back of the original has the same picture as the
cover of the re-release.

I have heard that there are differences in a couple of the mixes, but I have
never taken the time to compare them side-by-side (ear-by-ear?).

Why two covers? Bruce explained it to me at his Borders appearance in Chicago
a few years ago. He said something to the effect that when Way It Is (the
single) started to catch on, RCA was worried that the blurry accordion didn't
really capture what the band was about and changed the cover.

I certainly hope it's a legitimate auction, because I just placed a
bid on it!!! I've seen the original artwork cover on ebay before, but
I never won the auction. Perhaps I'm fighting for the bid with
somebody on this newsgroup? :)

i d like the one who has the cd to check- down the road tonight
and- the river runs low if they are indeed different versions on the CD also.

It would be odd to bid up the auction for another cover only

I have both versions on cd, tape and lp. Yep, I'm a bit obsessive. I
have a scan of the artwork if anyone wants it, just e-mail me. There
are timing differences on Long Race (I think) and River Runs Low. The
end to River is different, on the second release it resolves, on the
first one it just hangs, to me it makes the song sound a whole lot
sadder. Hey Si, want that one for a dose when you get back from World
Cup madness? And if anyone can figure out the difference in the other
song, you're way ahead of me.
