I'm not sure about "Old Wave", but "Stop and Smell the Roses" has a few good
songs on it, at least the Paul McCartney's "Private Property". Anybody that would
put these Ringo albums on the list before "Ringo the 4th" obviously hasn't listened
to all of his albums. And, unless these people have listened to just about every
album ever released, their list is invalid. Or as somebody else put it, not any
more valid than yours or mine. Just because it's in a book, it doesn't make it more
valid. I'm no expert on Van Dyke Parks, but I thought "Song Cycle" was some sort
of lost masterpiece? Or am I thinking of something else he did? I've never listened
to his solo work outside of "Orange Crate Art".
The list is obviously made up mostly of very popular bands/artists and their
most obscure/critically lambasted albums, and things like actors-turned-singers
like Travolta or Willis. What about just the really crappy bands in history that
just weren't that popular and just never did good albums? And as for "Still
Cruisin'", doesn't it have three of the classic most critically acclaimed BB songs
on it at the end? For that matter, I think the only fodder for the album to critics
would be either "Wipe Out" or "Kokomo". Everything else on the album is pretty good
I think. Even the title track isn't that bad. "Japan", "Make It Big", "Island
Girl", "In My Car", those are pretty good songs I think. On the plus side (sort
of), I feel confident that "Summer In Paradise" would have made this list had it
been done in '92 or afterwards.

deserve to be on that list and probably a couple more. CSNY...Who...If
you really wanna compile a list of bad R+R records...Ya gotta go back to
the 60's with all those one hit wonders..1 or 2 good songs then 7 or 8
pure dreck...Especially groups that couldnt play well...Im not gonna say
who i think should be on that list because of offending someone...But i
will point out that both shatner + nimoy put records out for your
enjoyment....On second though i will mention one group..The Electric
Prunes...2 hit singles and 4 lps of BS........IMHO....Paul......

Hmm, which Donovan songs do you consider stinkers, L? Sure I am

I have the above, and while none rank among my favorites, none stink.
And HEY...I LIKE the Electric Prunes. "Get Me To The World On TIme" is
a great song, and "Stockholm 67" is a fantastic album, in fact
allmusic.com sez "finest record ever released by this band, and maybe
the best live album of the psychedelic era," tho I realize we're
talking about a studio LP here.
And besides...where's Rolling Stones' "Love You Live" on the shitlist?
One of the few albums I bought and then had to get rid of.

rated the BEST albums. I dont have it, but I remember that Rod Stewert's "Every
Picture Tells A Story" was the top album. Not that "Picture" isn't a good
album, but the best?...ummmmmmmm...no. Also I remember the only Beatles album
on the list was "Please Please Me".
Speaking of Beatles, in their Worst Albums book, they pick McCartney as one of
the worst rockers. "The Girl is Mine" aside, I think that shows again that
these authors must be related to the publisher.

Two weak albums? Try "A Kind Of Magic" and "Live Magic". These mentioned

and "Don't Lose Your Head." Infact alot of the songs just don't go much of
anywhere. But "Who Wants To Live Forever" is a deserved classic and "One
Vision" is pretty high octane ansd hooky and catchy.
I've never actually heard "Live Magic." Infact for a long long time it was
the only Queen album I didn't own. I still don't own it.So I'm gonna have to
take your word for it.

Exactly, these two plus Princes Of The Universe and you've got the essence.
Too much of a
safe play, not enough experiment if you ask me. It gets in your ear quickly
and gets boring even
faster.

You aren't missing anything. It's all heard before (actually after). It's
basically Live At Wembley
with some brutal editing on some tracks (not sure 'bout a CD version). Some
takes are from
different venues, but nothing exciting... Should have been better advised
and release some of their
early 70es live material instead.

I don't think one can really appreciate "Who Wants To Live Forever" unless
you have seen "Highlander." Brian May is great at writing really emotional
tunes.

there are some big omissions, some tracks otherwise performed during that
'78 tour missing.
Then again, if they did release all the tracks, it would have been a triple
record set, more expensive,
would probably sell less etc... You always have the bootlegs though.
Queen as a band were never really fond of releasing live lps 'cause they
thought that the audience didn't
get real value for their money. It was something like Brian saying that live
records are usually bought by
an existing audience, and not the new one. Since existing audience went to
the concerts anyway, they got
nothing new from live lps. He got the point, imo. Of course, nowadays live
records are reminiscences, but back then, when the band was still active it
was different. Anyways, the band never appreciated the
Live Killers record; in my opinion it's great!

There was a Freddie Mercury boxed set next year? First I miss Brian May's
wedding, then this box set. And I call myself a Queen fan... I spent too
much time listening to "Live at the Roxy," I suppose. ;^{)
