It is with deep sadness that I relate this sad piece of information to all
Latin-Jazz fans. Mauricio Smith, Panamanian composer, arranger and
flautist/saxophone player, is hospitalized with terminal cancer. He is
not expected to survive. I had the pleasure and honor of working with
this maestro several times since the early seventies and can vouch for his
talents and professionalism. Mauricio is currently hospitalized at Lutheran
Hospital in Brooklyn, NY. I’m sure all of you who have enjoyed his music in
the past join me in prayer for this very fine gentleman.
