Hi

My curiosity is peaked. I saw the audition notice for the group (I dont sing
professional) However, I thought it was such a cool name for a band. Quite
honestly I wanted to know the story behind the band a bit more on the group if
anyone can fill me in. I'm out in Southern, Ontario as a CASA rep I'd heard the
name but not much more about the group. Filling me in would be good as I keep
tabs on what pro groups are doing and recommend them to people.

Have you checked out www.dumpsterkitty.cc? We did a gig with DK and
they're really awesome, GREAT singers and performers. Pasquale DID tell
me the story behind the name, but it escapes me at the moment. Check
out the website (it's NOT .com it's .cc).
Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Okay,

I figured that there would eventually come a time to let the cat out of the
bag. It's kind of a lame story but one worth telling. So here we go.

Dumpster Kitty was not always known as Dumpster Kitty. We went through a few
months without a name and then started to settle on the name Almost 1/2.
Luckily, my sister Kathy and I were working at a restaurant together. Me as a
chef and her as a waitress. Well, in the back by the trash receptacles we had
a few cats that would hang out back there but always this one tiny kitten that
came to the front door because the assistant manager would bring it a bowl of
milk when it was there. Well, one day Kathy decided to stroll outside with the
manager to give the milk and when the manager set it down on the ground she
said "here you go dumpster kitty".

Now, I was in the back cooking my ass off as usual. But Kathy told us all this
story at the next rehearsal with no intention of dumpster kitty being our name
but when she said those two words together, Scott, Chad(since retired from DK),
and I all yelled out "that's it!!!" and so Dumpster Kitty was born.

It has a great rock band name to it. Kind of like Smashing Pumpkins. It
sticks in your mind.

and we didn't just change the name. We went through a few weeks of
disagreement but it finally stuck.

I probably told Graham this story during the afterglow at the Harmony Sweeps
sub-regional. At one point that night this wonderful woman...(sorry I can't
remember your name but it's just as well) from the now disbanded "Hearsay" told
me "you guys did a great set but I have to tell you...I hate your name..."

I love honest people. But there's a time to draw the line and I think that was
it. I remained the nice guy I am and quickly replied..."well, that's the
beauty part. You either really like it or really hate it but either way you
won't forget it."

Okay, I'm babbling. Thanks for the interest in Dumpster Kitty name history.

Feel free to ask any other questions that we haven't told you. But I must warn
you. I cannot tell the secret of how I throw fireballs from my bare hands.
Only one other person has learned the trade(Dave Sperandio...who nearly burnt
his hand off) and we'd both have to kill you if we told you. So there you have
it.

DUMPSTER KITTY came from a little teeny tiny cutesy adorable mushy sweet
kitten.

Awwww.....

Hugs :)

Sorry about the last post. Thought you were only looking for history on the
name.

In a few words, Dumpster Kitty was spawned from an Orlando doo-wop group called
"The Doo-Wop Shop". In 1996 my sister Kathy and I flew to New Jersey to attend
the East Coast Summit and we had the chance to hear Rockapella and FOCS(who
really inspired us to start DK). So we went home and asked Scott( another
doo-wop shop member) if he wanted to try and start something up. We were never
sure of what we wanted it to be. We were doing some Madonna, ABBA, Seal,
Queen, Savage Garden and a few others. But we figured that with the chosen
group name, these songs would have to go or the name would so we started
listening to some other stuff and decided that a name like Dumpster Kitty was
deserving of music like classic rock, metal, and rock in general. Selections
by Led Zepellin, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Van Halen, Aerosmith, Def Leppard, King
Crimson, are just a few. We've got some originals of our own too.

Dumpster Kitty is a sextet. Structured with Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Baritone,
Bass, and Vocal Percussion. Members are Susan Williams(S), Kathy Palazzolo(A),
Earl Elkins(T), Pasquale Palazzolo(Bar), No Bass as of yet, and Scott
Porter(VP).

The group has been formed for about 4 years but only the past two have been
strong. We've been plagued with the disease of never being able to hold down a
bass singer. We still need one desperately.

But there you have it. Anything I didn't cover, let me know and I'll be glad
to answer.

Actually Graham,

It may have escaped you after sharing that muddy brown beer with me at the
afterglow.

She certainly was. That is still one of the doo-wop groups regular song
selections for performances. How funny that you remember that. I had also
sung another song...I can't remember what it was though...maybe "Morse code of
love".

Wow. Thanks for the memory.

Yeah, probably. I'm STILL trying to figure out what you slipped in my
beer after you drank it that caused me to lose my memory of an entire
Saturday night! I didn't know we had won until the following Thursday
when the guys told me at rehearsal. ;-)

BTW, it was RED beer...RED! (shameless plug) - Killian's
Red...Mmmmmmmmmmm.

Knowing what I know about the group (they disbanded in April), that was
probably Stephanie. She's like that. Probably never even crossed her mind
that it would upset you.
