I went to a Bike shop and he had a 1986 Rebel for $1800 He said it was
an excellent beginner bike. A couple of questions. Is 1800 too much
for a beginner bike? Also is the rebel too small for 200 pound, 6'2"
guy?

Please mail me back. I don't often visit your newsgroup...

Thank You

Wade

No, $1800 is not too much for a beginners bike, but its at the very high
end of the price range for the seemingly collectable Honda Rebel.

Yes, the Rebel is too small for a 200 pound, 6'2" guy. All you have to
do is sit on it to tell that. You will need at least a 400cc or 500cc
motorcycle if you want to go an the highways. You might look at older
Honda Shadows, of the 500cc to 750cc range. The '85, '86 years should
be in that price range.

Wade,
I bought a 1986 Rebel for my wife last summer after looking at
several bike shops and watching the local newspapers (Eastern PA). I
found a dealer that was asking $2,600 for an '86 with 600 miles on
it. The bike was mint but, way, way overpriced! I finally found the
'86 that I bought for $1,600. It has 900 miles on it and had been
completely repainted and custom pinstriped. It's a great bike! I
ride it from time to time to make sure its running OK for my wife. I
agree that it's a great starter bike.
