Ok, my bike keeps stalling because its idling way too low. Its idling
just above the mark that says 0 RPM on the tachometer. So two
questions... First, what should a '99 Yamaha R6 idle at? Second,
does anybody know right off the top of their head how you adjust the
idle on these bikes?

If anybody could help, I would GREATLY appreciate it. Thanks in
advance.

What does the manual say? Most mechanic I talked to said between
1000-1500 RPM should be the iddle speed on most bikes. You can adjust
the idling speed by turning a screw or a knob found near the carbs, your
manual should tell you where and which way to turn it.

The proper idle spec is 1250-1350 rpm.

The first hash mark is 1k rpm even though it's really really close to
the zero line. I keep it just a hair below 1500, doesn't really matter
what speed you idle at and a faster speed provides marginally better
lubrication at idle.

Just below 1500, to adjust the idle there should be a black plastic knob on
the right side above the oil dipstick.

I cannot give you an answer for an R6, but I can for an YZF600, which
is essentialy the same engine. Idle on the YZF600 is 1300 rpm.
It is adjusted by turning a nylon bolt just iside the fairing on the
your side as you sit on the bike. You have to turn it quite a bit to
make much difference. I have to adjust the idle twice a year. We have
two distinctly different fuel formulations, and I can tell when they
switch....
