"Suppo confirms Honda role as Ducati announce his departure"

Mind you, I don't think that what Honda really needs right now is a
"Marketing Director for MotoGP activities".

In the Ducati camp, the article goes on to say "...Vittoriano
Guareschi, already the test rider for Ducati, will undertake the role
of Team Manager, bringing to the squad a wealth of knowledge and
experience that he has gained through being a professional rider and,
most recently, a test rider."

Hmmm. We'll see.

They would if they lost Repsol. And even Honda can always use more
money. Marlboro Honda, anyone?

We'll see where Davide Tardozzi ends up as well. He's been Mr WSB Ducati
Corse for so long that him leaving is really quite sad.

I'd seen that Guareschi was being made team manager, but didn't know
what was happening to Suppo. Seems a bit of a strange decision, Suppo
has been pretty successful. I wonder what the behind the scenes story
is?

Cheers,

You've not heard the rumours about him knocking off Stoner's wife
then?

There's also rumours that Rossi would never join Ducati while Suppo
was there, as Rossi doesn't like him, so this would pave the way
for Rossi to move into the team.

But personally I just reckon that HRC need *something* to get back
to their winning ways and offered a very large sum to get Suppo
and his knowledge on board.

Actually, Guareschi becomes Team Manager while Alessandro Cicognani,
previously marketing manager for Ducati Corse, becomes responsible
for the overall MotoGP project. It seems Guareschi will be the
interface between the riders/mechanics and management.

As for Tardozzi, I reckon he fell on his sword after the results
from SBK this year.

And only last week in the comic, Suppo was denying that he was moving.

I bet he's kicking himself for letting Fabrizio take those two wins when the
only benficiary was Fabrizio.

Who he manages. I think the godfather hug and the tears in Parc Ferme at
Portimao were for both of them. Like some Greek tragedy, he knew that
there was no way out and exactly what he'd feared would happen, did.
Rumours also that he didn't/doesn't like Haga.

You've been reading the Italian press?

This was completely telegraphed by Vitto taking the trophy on
behalf of Ducati. Wonder where Tardozzi will be next week?

I'd heard those, but also that they were made up by the Italian press,
which flies as a theory because there wasn't much else to write about
in the ducati garage at the time.

Maybe thay could save it for the mind games and one of the Yamaha
riders should ask Stoner, just before the first race next season...

Not really, but stuff like that gets about.

Whether I believe it or not is a different matter.

What'd be the point? None of the teams can display tobacco sponsor
branding anymore. Even the Yamahas spent the last year of Gauloises
sponsorship with 'GO!!!!!!!!!' plastered up the fairings.

As if there was ever any doubt. Me and the missus were talking about how his
departure would be handled 2 laps before Fabriio crossed the line.

That I didn't know, but nothing surprises me anymore.

If the silly rumours are anything to go by, then "up to the spuds in Stoners
missus" would be a fair guess, but the rumours are obviously shite.

I'd heard the rumours, but don't give them any credence.

I suppose the "making way for Rossi" theory might have something to
it, especially now that Rossi has effectively given an ultimatum to
Yamaha that they have to choose between him and Lorenzo for the 2011
season.

Effectively?

Seemed pretty unequivocable when he was being interviewed by la Perry.
"It's him or me" and he specifically mentioned the possibility of going
to Ducati. Yamaha know he's coming to the end of his career and they
want the successor so unless Lorenzo scores a ride at Honda, I'd guess
the only thing stopping Rossi ending up at Ducati is Stoner.

Isn't it just more mind games to get at Lorenzo? eg "You'd better beat
me or you'll be out of a job." Closely followed by money mind games
against Yamaha. "You'd better pay what I want or I'll be off to Ducati."

You are right that it was pretty unequivocal in the BBC interview, but
this could all be contract posturing (admittedly a lot earlier than it
usually happens).

Seems chicken that he can't just go on the strength of his riding, like
Ben Spies does.

Perhaps he's not satisfied with finishing seventh every week.

It was mentioned during the press conference after Stoner's return. He
just laughed it off when asked about it. But then, what else was he going
to do?

I prefer Rossi like this. Gibernau and Biaggi prolly don't.
