My ISP (Roadrunner) did similar and just another example of these guys
eliminating service features without dropping their rates.
I've tried a few outside newsgroup services over the years (Giganews, Easynews,
etc.) and have found Newsguy to be a good value...

They dropped all alt.binaries groups. The only one I looked at is
abpmh. Just not worth paying for an extra feed to just get it. Maybe
if I looked at a lot porn or "woodworking" <wink wink> it'd be worth
it.

I use news.individual.net for my newsgroups, text only, no binaries.
Since I've been really busy or out of town the last few weeks,
I haven't gone across the street to abpmh in a while.
I just checked it out. Damn if Time Warner didn't pull the plug too.
Guess I'll have to check into Newsguy per recomendations of the patrons of
this fine bar.
Time Warner has other recomendations.

I had NewsGuy for years when it was only about $20/year. Then somebody
bought them out and unlimited Usenet got prohibitively expensive with

The same staff has been operating NewsGuy for the past 16 years, and while
we changed the name of the service from Zippo's to NewsGuy in 1998, the
company has never been bought or sold.
We're one of the few newsgroup services that I know of that offers a price
protection feature for as long as you remain a member of our service. As a
result we have members today that are paying the same membership fee they
paid in 1992 when we started the service.
We currently offer 10 GB plans for as little as $3.33 month, 50 GB plans
for as little as $8.33 month, and unlimited plans for $15.88 month. We're
also adding a free month of service to any customers coming over from
Verizon, RoadRunner or AT&T which further reduces the membership cost.
All of those plans provide full access to 70,000+ newsgroups, 90 day binary
retention, 99% completion rate, 32 concurrent connections, Usenet search
engine, NNTP & Web access, SSL encrypted access, 5 email boxes & website
space, so our plans are pretty competitive with other providers.
We have never offered a $20/year unlimited download plan, and in fact we've
only been providing unlimited download accounts for two years (5/16/2006).
If you review the unlimited download accounts at comparable services,
NewsGuy's rates very reasonable (Newsguy - $15.88 month, Giganews - $24.95
month, Easynews - $29.94 month).
A nice trend within Usenet these days is that most of the quality newsgroup
providers offer some type of no-risk trial period, so you have an
opportunity to evaluate multiple services for free until you find one that
best suits your requirements.

Still, paying money just for one binary newsgroup isn't something that

Absolutely! A free newsgroup site (Google, Mozarella, etc.) is the way to
go if you don't require access to binary newsgroups.
If folks have an interest in various text & binary newsgroups... and they
can no longer get them through their ISP... a paid newsgroup provider may
make sense.
In those situations most free newsgroup providers do not offer binary
newsgroups, or the quality of their binary groups are poor (low retention,
missing posts, etc.)

text only news group, but then I guess they would think there is to much
space used for this group then they would drop this one. So I guess another
route is to just get a photo bucket account and post a link to it.

I have looked at ton of Tud's projects on there and only looked at the other
