Found out what those Chinese digital scales/calipers put out . It's a 24
bit binary signal , and the pinout (for most) is +v / data / clock pulse /
and -v . You can figger the + and - with a meter and go from there . If
you're interested , Shumatech is coming out with a new unit , much more
capable than the 350 he's been selling . Has inputs for 5 scales , plus two
tach inputs and I think they said two edgefinder inputs . Based on a much
more powerful processor , it should be able to handle a mill and a lathe
with the same box - though not simultaneously . And he's sayin' it'll be
cheaper and easier to assemble than the 350 was . Wish now I'd waited !
Check out www.shumatech.com for info ... quite likely the best deal out
there for budget-limited shops and hobbyists .

The battery in the Chinese scales is never off so they go dead pretty quickly.
I've bought several of them and tossed them all out. No mo digital here. But
I'll probably be buying some encoders to convert my mill table to DRO - won't
run on batteries, though.

Check out the Shumatech unit . Excellent capabilities , provides power for
the scales , and reasonably inexpensive . Hopefully , you'll be better at
soldering components to a PCB than I am .
Don't ask , the wound is still too fresh . I'll just say the board is
going to Texas for diagnostics by the guy that designed it . We suspect a
dead IC , but I have no way to test it .
