Two hours later ALL of them pull into the drive, the doc wanted him to stay
overnight, but he wanted to go home! Seems it was Annie's cooking that about
did him in, (well, sort of!). The old man is diabetic, blood pessure
problems, you name it, and the good chow got him over eating, and the doc
figgured it tripped his Vagus nerve,
http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-the-vagus-nerve.htm , which dropped his
blood pressure to the bottem and slowed him down. He come out of it on his
own, and wondered what all the fuss was about. Right before this happened,
He said he just wanted to lay down and rest , then a minute later we figured
he was in trouble. Later, He kept telling his Missus, and Annie that he
would have been fine, but if you were there you would have thought
differant!

2010 Ultra - Wow!
2005 Ultra, long gone and forgotten
So we ain't the only ones! Got the house spiffed up, spent a
small fortune on food, & got ready for an over full house for the
weekend. Linda whiped up a GREAT turkey with all the trimings. PITA
kids made a nusience of themselves, but the good kids kept 'em
marginally under control. The adults were polite & friendly.
THEN the dickhead BIL showed up (just in time for dinner), but
he was strangely quiet. I thought he was just in another bad mood,
but as soon as he finished desert he announced that his left side
motor controls weren't workin'. A little questioning determined that
he'd been feeling bad since he woke up, he was dizzy, & his left arm &
leg weren't responding correctly. I figured mild stroke. The entire
family insisted he go to the emergency room & we loaded him into a car
with his wife & two of the other adults. They were back in 15
minutes! Jerk wanted to go to his own doctors........three hours
away! At least he was being his irritating self........ His wife &
one of the adults loaded him in his car & headed back across the
state. The others figured out how to devide the cars & drivers,
packed their stuff & kids, & within an hour Linda & I were alone with
a large Thanksgiving mess.
We spent the evening picking up & relaxing. We now have
leftovers for the month, but an extra three days together with plenty
of free time, & we did get to spend a day & a half with the good
relatives.
Oh yeah, the dickhead. Late last night they called to let us
know the emergency room in the small town he lives in figured it was a
mini-stroke, there was nothing to do, so they sent him home & told him
to follow up with his own doctor.
Didn't live up to Larry's definition of a family reunion, but
it was fun............8^)

Remember, "No good deed goes unpunished"
>Annie got out her cooking apron and went crazy in he kitchen, turkey, and
WOW! My Thanksgiving was very different this year. For the first
time since I had been divorced I spent the day at what I consider my
place with my lady, Dianne and her daughter and her daughter's fiance.
I can't believe how much good food there was!!! Many, many meals
worth of great leftovers. Can't believe how much insulin I had to
use!!
There were no fights, no sick people, no drunks, well besides me! That
pint of blackberry moonshine went fine with breakfast and lunch! Oh
wait, that was breakfast and lunch! Napster provided an endless
stream of tunes and the Packers kicked Detriot's ass!!!!!
I have lots to be thankful for this Thanksgiving!!
Eat, Drink and be Merry for tomorrow will bring more delicious
leftovers!!

Pretty nice to go somewhere else for the feast. All you gotta do is show up.
Eat their food, drink their booze, then when you have had enough, go home to
a clean house! he only down side is no leftovers! If your place is anything
like ours we live for leftovers, literally! I think we we would stave to
death if company did not show up once in a while so Annie would have an
excuse to cook!!

I'd bake one just to make th' house smell soooo gooood. Th' last
couple of hours before it's done is what heaven must smell like alla
time.

We were out of turkey yesterday to go with all the other leftovers so I
deep fried another bird last night. Now we have good stuff.

Confuse a liberal. Use facts and logic.
I have about 5lbs of wings in the smoker.....does that count?

FYYFFs, haven't had an oven here for at least three years. Haven't missed
it either. Didn't have a dishwasher either, except for Boots, for the last
two years. Replaced one this week. Looks like I'll have to replace the
other if I'm not careful.

Lots of info on Youtube about that subject.
Including Alton Browns' version from the food channel, with a step
ladder safety hoist!
When done correctly, they all seem to say they are extremly moist-n-juicy.
I never had one yet... or know who to sell the used 3 gallons of oil to.
You don't need a Traeger . I do them in my Brinkman . Horizontal tube , with
a burner box hangin' off one end . Cost us about a C-anna-half at WallyWorld
a few years back . Useta do them in the vert round one too , just cover most
of the lower shelf with heavy foil so the heat is indirect . Also helps to
cover the space between the tube and the ground to help control airflow and
heat loss . I used aluminum flashing ...

I think ya do it that way outside. Which is one reason I've never
done it that way either. I ain't givin' up th' smell of basted turkey
wafting through th' house for it, no matter how good they are <g>.

Not if it's a wood floor, ya don't. I've watched a bucket of oil burn
down a restaurant/bar. Well, it didn't burn to th' ground but if ya
come up here I'll take ya there... they have pics on th' wall.

Saw the comparison between them and Oil friers... but having not used
either, I can't compare or advise.
If one is allergic to peanuts and their oils, well then the choice would
be obvious!
Still, the oil frier is faster.

Snarl is being facetious.
Ya know, the same thing that I was known for doing.

My five year old niece is allergic to peanuts so I use pure canola oil.
Tastes just fine although I prefer peanut oil.

I've smoked a ton of turkeys and never needed anything bigger than one
of those Afro D2 looking smokers. Only smoked one at a time, but in a
pinch a big one and a small one might fit. Stuff it with oranges,
apples and maybe some pears and baste it periodically with Coke and
worchestershire diluted with water and smoke it over pecan and it's real
tasty.

If you ever do try it, it has to be completely thawed and dry, inside
and out. Drop a wet bird in that grease and you'll have that
explosion.

So you *were* squirel hunting (snicker) when I called a couple a weeks
ago
If I'd have replaced Boots, it would have been with two 20 yr olds, and I'd
be too exhausted to type this. Did buy an oven today though.<groan> Now
I'm waiting for the next shoe to drop when she says, "Honey we need...."

And I still haven't cleaned my gun.
I fried 7 last week. 3 at work on Wednesday, 2 on Thanksgiving and 2
that Friday.
I used to wet brine and tried the "Dry" brine method this year for the
first time. The Dry method is better.
