The dream... 305... precursor to the 350 I had. A friend had a dream
and it always sounded better... and it had more torque. We used to hill
climb with them and that sumbitch could go up anything... that 110% is
probably why.

Glad ya popped in.

Yamaha 360 - never forget my first ride on one, down shifting into the
power band while going up a fair hill. I think I just got a sore tail
bone flashback...Jeez, was that really 35 years ago? Ugly ride view from
the seat with the narrow tank and the crap stock bars - just like it's
smaller cousins.

Almost all my prior mountain riding experience had been on 125cc
machines of which the Zuke Duster was most able and a few rides on a
250cc Zuke that I recall was named the "Savage". The 250cc was that
butt ugly orange. Joke was that it was that color so you could easily
find it when it got away from you.

Thanks for the memories.

The 2 lime green (Fugly) Honda QA 50 CCs really caught my attention. That
was the first bike I bought my daughter. I traded it for a Montessa 50CC
Trials bike (talk about rare) she wanted and wish I had just kept it. I've
looked but I can't seem to connect with one. They had an automatic clutch
that would grenade with time and wipe the motor.

Hmmmm, I was three years old at the time.
Surprisingly enough I do remember that day.
My two older brothers and I were wondering
why everybody in our apartment building was
crying. That was the South Bronx in 1963.
My sister couldn't care at all, but she was
only three months old.

Got the oil pressure problem solved on my shovel and been ridin' the

Started a new hobby this weekend...restoring vintage travel trailers.
Almost got my yard cleaned up from the ice storm in Feb. The bugs are gone

Had a '74 CB 750 and rode it 'till it died. Got a '79 CB750, first year of
the dual o/h cam and after that wanted a CBX. Moved to Arkansas and found
one sitting in the weeds beside the local metric shop. Tried to buy and the
guy wouldn't sell. 16 years later it ain't moved an inch and is no longer
worth buying.

Doesn't mean the one you want was bought... it could still be there,
and if it wasn't sold in a lot, it's probably even CHEAPER now.

Dang near 40 years for me...was workin' behind the counter in the local
Yammie shop whilst goin to college and when we opened the crate on the new
'72 models that silver grey paint called my name. Ooooo, wow...reed valves!
Threw on a skinny 21" front wheel and replaced the fender with the high
mounted plastic one, gnarly knobbies on both ends, down one tooth on the
counter shaft and off to the Los Padres forest!

Bah! That's crap. I would have to avoid looking at the thing, liable to
make me ill.

I bought my '73 when I turned 18. I was still living at home, really
pissed off the old man. He didn't like bikes much. I bagged groceries
and did odd jobs and saved up the 500 bucks a friend of a friend wanted
for it. It needed a tune up, so he referred me to another friend who was
a pretty good wrench. Having spent all my cash on the bike and being
clueless as to how to tune the thing up, I became the guys freakin'
slave to pay him off. The dude worked my ass off. After that I bought a
Clymer manual and the stuff to do it myself.
Then I got my first "real" job, and an older guy that worked there knew
his way around bikes pretty well. He showed me how to work on it and
kept me from doing stupid stuff to it. Shit I could write a book about
that summer.
Good times.

Well, guess what? If a piece of the o-ring from around the oil tank filler
neck breaks off when you don't notice it and falls into the oil tank,
eventually it gets sucked into the inlet hose to the oil pump. When that
happens your oil pressure goes away.
After you blow said piece of o-ring out of the tank, the bike runs just
fine.
Of course I didn't find this until I'd spent close to $100 on gaskets and
such to rebuild the oil pump and pull the nose cone off to see if I could
find the problem.

I worked a bunch on it in the spring before the bugs came out. Now the bugs
are gone again and I can walk in the yard without the chiggers eating me

Heh, but of course! At least ya found it tho <clink>.

Here's one for ya... H-D used a piece of fine meshed metal screen as
an oil filter in their '37 line of BT oil tanks. It was brazed in
vertically on th' right side of th' tank to th' left of th' feed line.
In th' winter, riders started complaining about th' oil guage coming
on and having no oil pressure. Th' official factory tech bulletin to
address this was to stick a large standard screw driver through th'
mesh screen and open it up via th' oil fill hole. Turned out
condensation was freezing onto th' mesh and not allowing th' oil to
flow past <g>.

I have an original '37 (one year only) oil bag, complete with a
factory repair to th' mesh if ya ever wanna see one. Cracked me up!
Can you imagine diagnosing that one?

Probably about the same as I went through to find the damn o-ring.
A couple of days after I reassembled the nosecone and pump with no results I
was sitting out in the shop drinkin a beer and just looking at the damn
bike. It dawned on me that when I had disassembled the pump, I had drained
the tank first. Got just about an ounce of oil outa the hose when I pulled
it. At the time that seemed normal to me. Then I thought "Well, that
really didn't tell me if the line was plugged, because there should be at
least that much oil in the line(the oil pressure never really went all the
way to nothing, just got low enought that the lifters bitched about it).
Right then and there I slid a pan under the motor and pulled the hose. Just
a trickle. Hmmm.
Fired up the air and blew back into the tank. Heard a little pop and then
air in the oil. Put the hose back on the pump and presto...40 psi again.
Took the tank off the next day and cleaned it real good, been perfect ever
since.

I had so much brush layin' around I couldn't see my yard. I've already
burnt 3 piles about the size of one of those Buick's of yours and I've got a
couple more to go. I've also got about 2 cords of firewood cut(I only heat
my shop with wood, so that'll probably last the winter)split and stacked and
plenty more still hangin' in the trees
This place looked like a war zone after the storm. There's a video of my
driveway on Youtube, but I know you're still on dial up. Took 8 hours to
cut my way to the road.

Yup, a head scratcher for sure. A few decades ago I figgered an oil
guage might be cool on th' Knuck. Once that fucker gets hot, oil
pressure goes down to nuttin honey. I was pullin m' hair out tryin'
to find th' problem. Called a bud and he started laughin' his ass
off. Told me to remove th' oil guage, hook th' lines back up and
start it. Said if th' lifters are tappin, adjust the fuckers. If
not, go for a ride. Those old girls don't have much pressure, don't
need it either. Doh!

Saw those, looks like a good size for two. What's up with those
windows near th' roof line towards th' rear, is there a bunk up there?
Does it have a shower?

I don't know squat about those things, but I've got a friend who does.
He says th' *only* way to keep them things from leaking and gettin'
all moldy is to have 'em covered, inside a shop is best if possible.
His is outside, tarped, and under a roof over built just for it. Th'
tarps cover th' roof down to th' bottoms of th' windows. He keeps a
small heater inside for winter. Fuckin' field mice love it <g>.
Personally, they seem like too much work for th' couple weekends a
year that he uses th' damn thing.

Those are long gone, all of 'em, El Camino's too. Mighty respectable
sized pile none-th-less. Mines just a 6' dia fire pit about 3' deep.
Anything bigger and th' fire nazi's pay ya a visit.

I remember readin' about that, we get those here too, just been
awhile. Prolly due. There's still tons of downed wood in th' brush
from th' last one. Hmm, it should start rottin' about now. See, if
ya wait long enough ya don't have to do shit <g>.

Oh, and DSL should be here between now n' Dec 20.

Everybody kept sayin' "It's a shovel, it's only supposed to have 12 pounds."
Couldn't get the point across that it always had way more than that before
and it had changed suddenly.

Yeah, there's a bunk above a couch across the back. I'm trying to decide if
I
want to make that into storage, or leave it as a bunk for the grandkids.
The dinette across the front makes another bed.
Has a chemical toilet with a small holding tank of some sort, but no shower.
Also has a real art-deco looking curved wall

I've already spoken to my carpenter about a shed on the end of my shop.
I'm planning on taking the windows out and replacing the butyl caulking
before I paint it. I've been
under it and the floor is good, although in need of a new coat of
undercoating.
The 12v system needs some attention, and I'll have to change out the
110v-only fridge for the correct
3way type before we can camp someplace with no power.

Boy does that bring back some crappy memories. How widespread was
that storm? Ours was about 50 (sorta) sq. miles. Thirteen days with
no power and you can still see th' damage 15 years later.

Actually, our little community had the worst of it in our county, but I
think it affected like half the state. We were out of power for 11 days
with 2 poles right in the yard down.
Now that it's winter again and all the leaves are off my place really looks
bad. My neighbor up the road said it took him 20 years to get his place the
way he liked it and now it's 10 times worse than when he started.
And yes, the kerosene and gas cans are full again as well as the oil lamps.
Gotta get a new bottle for the grille, though.
