Hi To All,

Up until now I have ridden Jap bikes, but these days I have seemed to
mellow somewhat. I have NEVER had any interest in HD so I need some
advice on where to start.

I would dearly like to enter the HD Arena bu buying a new 883 Iron.

I have had some mixed response on the choice, so I thought I'd throw
into a forum.

Thoughts please.

First this is not a forum.
It is a newsgroup, usenet.
Second, go to http://rmhfaq.com/ for a read on exactly what this is
and how it works so next time you know what to do.
Third, come back and showl us what you learned and what you want to
use your new Harley for.
Boy, I'm thirsty this morning!!

FWIW, there's a lot of "forums" that carry Usenet feed and it looks like
part of the Forum.

IMHO, sporties are decent bikes for one up. Not great for two up because they are too cramped. They've had a long time reputation as a girls bike because of the macho attitude of many harley riders who have to have the biggest bike possible to compensate for what ever is bothering them. On the other hand if one isn't familiar with harleys, the sporty is a good jumping off point. I'd expect to sell it before too long as you get comfortable with harleys and want more comfort. The sporty is a very minimalist ride.

Shrug. Some people like minimalist. I rode one for eleven years.
With luggage and a decent seat, it did fine for the occasional 2,000
mile trip.

Mind you, I like the stereo and cup holder in my current bike. But I
still miss the sporty sometimes.

You are right about two up. Fine with daughter on back, when she was
younger. I wouldn't hesitate to take Noisy Glide cross country with
wife on the back, wouldn't do it on the sporty.
