For some reason I have been carrying a laser sighted M11 in the truck for
about the past year. Not very accurate or long range but I hope the
intimidation factor of a laser sighted machine pistol would be more
effective at stopping a fight than actually shooting someone with a little

far be it from me to cast aspersions on the venerable long colt. its a very
fine cartridge and probably the best of its kind in its day. i own a lever
action .44 mag that i got in a trade sometime back but other than a
curiosity, there is nothing it can do that another firearm can't do better.
my .454 casul can out perform it in a handgun and in the same size rifle
package, a good od .35 remington or a .444 can really put a gaping hole in

back to the OP, if i am going to carry a rifle sized carbine, give me at
least a .223"/5.56mm cartridge. if i m doing the pistol cartridge thing,
one of my m-10/11's are much more compact and do about the same thing.
IMHO, YMMV and all the other standard disclaimers are applicable.

Ok, so it's been one o' them days. Cleaned all my .40s, cleaned my 1911,
cleaned the 12 ga and the rifle, and got myself all fuckered up. I was
right the first time, and somehow mind-fucked myself into thinking I got

from important stuff......and endangers THAT work.

lbs of powder, about a dozen or so AR-15 lowers, and around 150 lbs of

The guy who introduced the bill did it back in 2007 too, both times he's been
unable to get a co-sponsor, and both times it's been buried in a sub-comittee
never to see the light of day.
But the internet seems to give things like this legs to run on, and certain

I've got the drawings , but that's a lot of machining , and I'm not sure I
want to spend that much time on one right now . The son is looking at buying

Only if you're made of money. They overcharge for everything, big

Your best bet is to buy in the largest quantities available, when they
are available. Powder Valley, for example, had Wolf large pistol

Yep, that's where my LPMs came from... Haven't had a chance to use them
yet... I'm working through various SPMs right now for .357mag and
.38specials that are loaded with the same powder charge... Just some
plinking ammo for armadillos when they come around the house and tease the
dogs... 2.7 grains of Hodgdon Clays with a 147 grain LRN bullet... Figured
I would load up all the .357mags and .38specials with this before starting
on my other calibers...

I was at Dick's Sporting Goods in Glendale, Arizona Sunday....cupboard was damn
near bare......
They seemed to have a bunch of .22 ammo, and a sparse collection of rifle
calibers. The shelves for pistol ammo were bare. Guy told me they get their
deliveries on Tuesdays and whatever they get is usually gone by noon......
I've got a Sportsmen's Warehouse down the street from me......they've been outa
ammo and reloading supplies for a while. But that has to do more with their
corporate bankruptcy, this store will be staying open and receiving inventory
from stores elsewhere that are closing.....and then......ordering/stocking may
resume as "normal".

I was more than happy to buy from the local shop a couple hundred primers
at a time, but once it got where you couldn't find *any* locally, I went
ahead and ordered a couple of batches from Grafs and Powder Valley... When
you have to pay the $20 or so extra for HAZMAT shipping, you want to make
it worthwhile, so you order a bit more than you would normally buy at one
time... For me, that was 20K of small pistol magnum primers and 20K of
large pistol magnum primers... I figure I have enough primers until the
next Republican or two gets into office... Powder is easy enough to find if
you are not that picky and willing to develop your own loads... I picked up
8 lbs of Alliant "Promo" powder to get it a try...

loaded. I could hold off a small army before I ever had to start stuffing
rounds into empty mags. It's not unusual to go to the range and burn 3-500
rds at a time, gotta reload the mags afterwards to be ready for the day the
shit hits the fan.

OK......serious question for you, from a gun owner who's not an expert....
How bad is it for magazines to leave them loaded???? I unload my magazines,
don't like leaving the springs compressed.....
Maybe I just should forget it, I did buy a couple 15 round mags....so I could
leave my 10 round mags loaded.....
I've always thought that if someone kicked in the front door (damn near 100%
chance it'll never happen).....I'd be using my 9mm as a club because I wouldn't
be able to get upstairs and get it loaded before "they" got to me (not that I'm
paranoid or anything)......
As long as the gun is locked up and I can get to the key (got little kids in the
house from time to time)......

allowed in the room with the guns unless there's an adult with them ... that
door is locked when they're here , and the key is up where they can't reach
it . But then I keep a loaded weapon on my person 'bout 99% of the time
unless I'm asleep . And at least one's within arms reach then ...
Leave 'em loaded , Steve , it won't hurt 'em .

Any danger of compressed springs should only show
up in the last round or two in the form of a jam
or misfeed. From a tactical standpoint that
shouldn't be a problem especially with hi-cap
mags; the armed encounter statistically only lasts
for an exchange of 3 rounds, *total*. You
shouldn't be running your gun to slide lock anyway
with tactical reloads being preferable. That said,
I don't compete with the mags that I use for self
defense.

Yup. It'll take a thief too much time to unscrew everything for it to

Was over at Costco this afternoon picking up dog food, as I was leaving I looked
across the parking lot at Sportsman's Warehouse and thought "What the hell...".
They had plenty of pistol ammo in a variety of calibers, but were rationing it.
Two boxes per customer, per day.......
I bought 2 boxes for $10.98 each......kid at check out rang me up, and then I
told him he might just want to charge me for the second box of ammo too.
Don't know how 2 boxes of ammo at $10.98 each, and 2 pairs of glove liners at
$3.99 each could come to $20.54.
