Hi!

I was watching the motocross from Mich. and and not once was LaRocco's
Leap mentioned. It was consistantly referred to as the "premier jump,
a triple step up". What's the deal?!?! Budds Creek has a Henry
section. Glenn Helen has the first turn. Etc. Mike's an icon in the
sport... why not go with it?

Did I miss something?

Yea, I noticed that too ! They even called it the parking lot jump.
WTF ? That IS LaRrocco's leap. I'm betting somewhere in this story
there is a marketing fuckwad or a lawyer douche bag involved. That
pair of species has dicked up most of what is good in this world
already.

You may have missed the new & dynamic Corp of America we now live in.

It's like every new "upgrade"...you have to stand on your head for it to
make any sense.

The important thing is we know it LaRocco's Leap...but you gotta have a
bike with a "tuned-up powerband" to make it!

Best Regards - Mike Baldwin

PS - Just another reason why I don't have cable or sat TV, I'm married
so I don't need to pay to be insulted :)

Poached this explanatio from the RacerX website in last Friday's
'Reason For Being" column:

David Pingree just sent this over:

I just saw the Red Bud broadcast, and after getting a few emails from
people troubled by the same thing, I could not find out why the Speed
TV announcers refused to call Larocco’s Leap by its proper name. They
kept saying it was the “Parking Lot Jump.” That jump was named after
one of the sport’s greatest local heroes that jumped it for the first
time, and it will always be Larocco’s Leap to me and to the thousands
of fans who show up every year at Red Bud….

Well, I called Jeff Emig to find out why he was calling it by anything
other than LaRocco’s Leap, and he said, “Oh man, absolute, complete
brain fade on my part. Wow, I completely forgot.… Maybe it’s because
I’m still traumatized by all the times LaRocco jumped over my head on
that thing!” Fro added that he takes full responsibility for the
oversight, which occurred while they were doing the post-race
voiceovers in an editing bay.

Not very satisfying, but there's your "official" reason.

I'm certain Emig's response is sincere. A novice Red Bud spectator once
told me that his immediate thoughts were, "someone should call the cops"
when he witnessed LaRocco passing riders at his namesake, (Emig
included)
Emig's quote (if accurate) tells me there's little to know PRE-RACE
preparation involved with his current gig. Same "could we just get this
thing over with" attitude Jeff had late in his racing career.
Kinda like nobody at ABC informing Jackie Stewart not to refer to
Carlsbad GP racers as "amazing lads on motorbikes"

Correction "little to know" should be "little to NONE" LOL!

Looks like Jeff's been hitting the crushed can again...

Hey, he's retired, why the hell not?
Fro still makes a pretty good color commentator. Not as good of
analysis as David Bailey, but Emig has the enthusiasm. He'd do better
without Ralph Sheheen...

Works for me. He's still my all-time favorite rider.

Just the 3 words together - "triple step up" sound sexy.
