Hi, Jim. I have no clue as to what would work for your 500 XC, but the
guys in this Vintage forum probably have all the answers you seek...

Good luck with your bike.

The owner passed away so everything there is up in the air. Jim

I'm actually looking for a friend of mine. He had called Euro-rods and
they said that they had lost their source so I don't know if it was the
owner or the source that went away. I got it second hand. My 500XC is
fine. Jim

not exactly an answer to your post
The 85 to 86 engines destroy the cases at the swing arm pivot way less time
than it takes to wear out a rod. Well from my disassembly of pats bikes
experience. The slot for the water pump won't cause any problems in an air
cooled engine. You or your friend likely will need the improved kick
starter gearing most notably the one on the back of the clutch basket. But
you need change all three gears as the improved version has different pitch.
I think some of the 85 used the older gears. If you need a rod kit chances
are the little gear on the back of the clutch is not far from total failure
unless the crank died because of the cavity it sits in filled with water.
The last versions of the 500 cranks like 88 lacked the lube hole. Have
anything against a used one, whole crank? Used engine? Did you call Halls?
What did they say?
