Some of the folks I know swore the US was as good as dead if O won.

All of those folks have a pretty low opinion of the rest of us, I guess.

Just saw this, sorry TRB.

I was up to a big trip...left 12/31 and got home 2/10. Bay Area to the
tip of Baja, and back. woo hoo

I'm just about to start a ride report. I'll post here when there's
something to read.

Much of the first part of the ride was based on finding hot springs to
camp by. Very cool.

Unfortunately, the second day in Baja had us riding through a dry lake
bed, that was no longer dry (remember the snow storm...) and we hit an
impassable section of mud that caused the DR clutch to disintegrate.
Took 8 days and a fair amount of cash but we got the bikes extracted,
found clutch parts, got them shipped to San Felipe, repaired the DR
and hit the road again. Very cool.

Spent the next 4 weeks traversing the Baja peninsula from coast to
coast, north to south and back north again, primarily on dirt roads.
Met the most amazingly friendly and helpful people, never had any
problems of the "is Mexico safe?" kind--a wonderful place to visit and
ride. Camped most of the time, cooked local food most of the time, hit
up a motel/restaurant when we needed a break. Found enough gnarly dirt
to get our fill. Ate the most incredible fish tacos. Listened to
whales breathing as we tried to sleep. Camped at a working rancho. No
injuries, stayed healthy, and stayed thankful.

Wife was only a little (LOT) jealous. :)

We were hiking/sightseeing in Joshua Tree Jan 3 and 4. Don't remember
seeing a WR250 anywhere.

That would've been crazy to run into you both there! We were actually
in Death Valley at that time. I would love to go back to JT, had a
great time there despite the weather. It's a rock climber's heaven--my
son carried a pair of climbing shoes with him the whole trip just so
he could climb there and a couple places in Baja. Wound up using them
once in Baja and once near Lake Isabella.
