I use the word "civilization" loosely. Seems the local metropark thing
decided that my self made trails of 20 years were too cool
to not use so that they paved them with packed limestone. They
also have had a ranger standing at the parking lot they made for
the last week. Great.
I could come onto the property any number of other ways but
even in the lousy weather we had the last couple weeks the
place has been packed, mostly with fishermen that finally
have easy access to the creek that is full of steelhead. Before
you had to know which way the trail went and if you had
an XR600 it was easier.
So. Friggin place is no longer tenable.
By happenstance, my buddy Adam called this week because
his buddy moved into a new shop and there's a big 'ole piece
of property behind that is not metropark. Partly cleared 5 years
ago, two roads put in, intended to be an industrial park.
But. The dorks that cut the trees and put in the roads didn't have
an EPA or whatever permit for doing all this in a watershed (story
was discombobulated so not sure but the feds shut them down).
And finally, somebody that realized what a great place to ride it
could be, and realized the importance of stealth, gave me a
call.
Boy and I rode for a couple hours there today and will go
back tomorrow on foot with pulaskis. New poached trail and the boy
is learning how to disrespect society norms just as much as I do.
I'm a happy camper this evening.
Go fast. Take chances.
