I took my birthday off every year for years, since we get our
birthdays off with pay, but I worked it one year and it was great! Cow-
orkers brought cake, everyone was real nice to me, I got a spanking or
two, lots of attention on me me me! Working on birthdays isn't so bad
anymore <G>

Arrghhh! You bastard! I've been having a *really* tough time in the
last year or so remembering birthdays. It used to just be my right and
my left that I couldn't get right but now I can't keep dates straight.
Sometimes I get the date right but the month wrong, or I'll think my
niece's birthday is a certain date only to find it's my newphew's
instead...it's just been a real struggle. So anyway, I double-checked
one of my zillions of little scraps of paper with notes on them
(thanks, Tim and Theresa!) several days ago and made sure I knew Tim's
birthday was the 18th...I thought I had a handle on it. Then you come
along and make me think I was wrong...again! I was about ready to
throw all the scraps of paper...*and* my calendar...in the garbage.

Well, I guess you are, seeings as how it's your birthday, too (which I
forgot...) and it's probably always a race to see who says "Happy
Birthday" first. At least, that's how it is with Eric and his twin

problem in mathematics...what's the probability of two people in a
room of at least 23 people having the same birthday...~50% provided
that birthdays are uniformly distributed throughout the year.

Yeah, but what are the odds of 2 guys that have never met joining a
random club on the same day, discovering on the first day in that club
a shared passion that one of them didn't even know he HAD before they
met, spending 90% of their weekends together for 2 years, and THEN
discovering that they have the same birthday? Probably a little lower
than 50%, I'd bet. Oh, and Joe, thanks once again for dragging me into
this hardcore trail riding/enduro/off road racing thing; best thing
that ever happened to my riding life. I don't know if I'd have ever
found it without you, buddy.

Doubly so. After (long after) he turned me into an off-roader, he also
turned me into a usenet, uh, user. I'd have never dreamed of going on
line and hooking up with a bunch of total strangers a thousand miles
from home if it wasn't for Joe.

Joe and I have a LOT of history together. In fact, I'd be hard pressed
to think of anyone (aside from Theresa, of course) who has a greater
effect on changing the course of my life than Joe has. It's been a
really fun trip, too.

Thanks, Charles. As for the ride report, first we have to ride. I hope
to very soon (this weekend maybe). Unfortunately, it may be quite a
while before Joe can do that. We are eagerly awaiting the next chance
we have to ride with him, though.

I wish. Weather changes relatively quickly up here. Joe's had some
pretty severe and mysterious health issues that have set him on his
butt this year, and it doesn't sound like things are improving much
(or enough, anyway). I won't go into details (Joe can make that call
if he wants), but riding isn't really even an option for him right
now. Think a happy thought/say a prayer/perform your particular rite
for Joe. I miss him a lot, and want him back on the trails, as well as
living an otherwise normal life. Of course, I mean "normal" in a
relative sense.

I've tried it several times with 13 people, and every single time we found two
with the same birthday.
