am i correct that these paints can be thinned with dio-sol?

also, is dio-sol different than mineral spirits?

thanks.

You can thin them with dio-sol, but don't have to. There is a lot of
personal preference in that. I don't really notice the difference when
I'm airbrushing, but use dio-sol anyway.

My feeble underestanding is that floquil paints are xylene based rather
than whatever the base is for other enamels. Dio-sol is different, but I
don't know how. Well... an obvious difference is the price, but that's a
different issue, isn't it.

To answer your question, Yes and No.

Floquil's lacquer-based paints, such as their marine and military series,
should be thinned with dio-sol, not with mineral spirits (which will thin
enamels), because they're incompatible.

In addition, be sure to prime any plastic to be painted with lacquer-based
paints. Otherwise, the dio-sol will eat into the plastic. Some people
actually use dio-sol as a glue!

Finally, only use dio-sol when you've got really good ventilation...the
stuff is absolutely lethal.

Floquil paints ARE NOT lacquers! They are extremely fine-grind enamels.
