Heller AWACS Painting tips needed....

Heller gave a number key for painting but for whatever reason made no
mention in the instructions what those colors may be.


the numbers in their grey scale painting guide are:

22, 56, 33, 40, 130

Am doing the 965th AWACS Tinker, 1990 version if that helps.

Can anyone translate to ModelMaster or similar large bottle paint or
rattle cans....

This is the second Heller kit I've bought that leaves out the painting
key. What gives?

You don't have many Heller kits, do you? I think they always supplied
numbers instead of names. First they were Heller proprietary colours then
when Humbrol bought them they started using Humbrol numbers.
22 is gloss white, 33 is matt black, 40 is pale grey gloss,
56 is aluminium and 130 is satin white. Sorry, I can't find exactly what
shade 40 is close to. I don't have any in 'stock'.

shade 40 is a good match for FS16440 light gull grey gloss

Those are Humbrol paint codes. Check
http://www.hotel.wineasy.se/ipms/stuff_eng_colorcharts.htm to match
them to other brands.

You should paint your AWACS with FS16515. Testors has it. Humbrol's 40
is not good for the AWACS being too dark and 'brown'.

For the main color of the E-3, use Model Master "Canada Voodoo Gray". I can't
remember the FS number, but I know it's the right color because I researched it
when I made my AWACS a few years ago. .
