Our club website received the following e-mail. I'm not a figure painter
just the club webmaster. Can anybody help this guy?
Thanks.

Subject: Figurines painting lessons

Hello, my name is Alfredo Castellanos, I live in Mexico, and I'm very
interested in taking figurine painting lessons. I work with figurines scale
1:35, I'm thinking to go to the states to take the lessons, can you please
tell me with who should I go?

Thank you very much.

I tried sending this a minute ago but I screwed up somewhere, if this gets
posted twice I apologize.
There are several great books on the subject. I'll list a
few.
Building and Painting Scale Figures by Shepard Paine
First rate book, great for beginners. Covers several
different painting techniques, as well as construction,
groundwork, scratch building.
The System volume one:figure painting by Francois Verlinden
& Bob Letterman
Also a good choice for beginners. Covers a simple, no
nonsense Oil painting technique plus some enamel.
Bill Horan's Military Modeling Master class by Bill Horan
Great book from one of the masters, however Horan's Humbrol
Enamel paint method, though startlingly effective, can be
difficult to master. Still worth it for inspiration .
And try to find an issue of Historical Miniature magazine.

By far the best Magazine on the subject.
Also check out www.mmhq.com. The Military Miniatures
HeadQuarters web site. An online gathering place for
hundreds of figure painters/sculptors, worldwide, with chat
groups on painting, scratch building, groundwork. You can
trade tips and learn new ones.
If you're really interested in finding a teacher, this
would probably be your best bet, though after getting any of
the books above, you may find a teacher unnecessary.
I hope this info is of some help. Good luck and good
painting.
