i bought a 10"x20" wood lathe from harbor freight tools for $93.94.
I've turned 3 nose cones on it so far..the largest being 4"dia. x about
12" it was heavy though at about 2lbs. i looked at their website and
only found a 14" x 40" at a price of $129.99. you will need some type of
bench to mount it to, because a stand is not included. I thought this
was the best route since you can
1. turn nose cones to whatever shape and size you want
and
2. aren't paying the ridiculous(my opinion)$14.00-$20.00 for each 3-4"
nose cone.

i pick up oddball cardboard tubes at work since i work at an engineering
firm...need a nose cone to fit no problem.

you will also have to take into account that this price doesn't include
any wood turning tools which i bought a home depot for about
$70.00...almost as much as the lathe itself...

good luck,

alan
