Off the shelf hardware store spray paints. What is fuel resistant?
Krylon? Rustoleum? Spray enamels? Thanks, Phil

Phil,

I've always found the epoxy spray paints and lacquer spray paints to be
fuelproof.

Krylon is very fuel proof as well as any of the urethane type paints.

I know Rustoleum is. . . it is a polyurethane paint. . . I've used it
several times. Not sure about Krylon but I think it is fuel proof
as well. Enamels are NOT fuel proof. Ron.

I've found that Krylon Laquer is pretty good, but it can bubble a little
after a year or so. Tremclad is the best enamel that I've used. The best
spray paint that I've ever tried is LustreKote. I've had no problems with
it up to 25% nitro.

I have found that solid colors in Krylon and Rustoleum are fuel proof. The
metallic colors are not fuel proof at all. I use Krylon and spray clear
lustrekote over top just to be safe.

Are Krylon and Rustoleum primers urethanes? I am planning on using Perfect
Paint for a WWII camo scheme in near scale RLM colors. I don't need to
match the colors perfectly. Perfect Paint is a urethane, so if I prime with
a cheaper krylon, they should be compatible, right? If anyone can recommend
another source of scale colors that is not too expensive for a large plane,
I would appreciate. I do not have a large volume sprayer, so it is spray
cans or brush.

Mike:

I have used Krylon Primer under Perfect Paints with no problems - You can also
use some Krylon colors over perfect paint. Do not use Lustrekote or like paints
with perfect paint - it will bubble. I just finished painting a Sea fury with
Gray Krylon and green Perfect Paint - and Krylon primer - worked great.
