Sounds like a good combination to me. I'm also looking for a throttle
that realistically simulates train controls: engine and train brakes,
dynamic braking, etc.
I'd like to eventually build a system that also simulates train grade,
tonnage, air temperature, and lashup. Sound is an important aspect of
this concept, as it provides essential feedback to the engineer
regarding his/her inputs relative to actual performance. Infrared is a
little less important to me (my layout will be relatively small). DCC
is perhaps the most critical technology, as any sort of block control
requires complex engineering in both hardware and software, and you
still can't run your locomotives independently in close quarters. And
DCC decoders handle dynamically programmable momentum, one less thing to
build into my system.

I'd rather have radio controll than infra-red.
Just thinking out loud.
Good Old Jim
The scenery only changes for the lead dog!
Steve: Don't know about the Rail-Lynx, But I would sure agree if it was
Aristo Craft radio throttle

I'd stick with infra-red, much cheaper to build and no problems with
interference and the like...

Jim's post about radio control is interesting. I use a PBL sound control
system with Infrared remotes. Because my layout is 50 x 20 x 6, it requires
several repeaters to transmit the infrared.
It would seem to me that radio control would be better. Why did Soundtraxx and
PBL use the infrared remotes. True they are much more powerful than your
common everyday TV remote.

PS The package sounds right on, and it is just a matter of time until someone
developes this package at a reasonable price. My opinion.

Digitrax will be offering an Infra Red throttle in the near future.
These will have all the features of the current throttles except
tehtherless. The IR sensors will be located in the layout fascia so
it should work quite well.
Sound will be a growing area with many improvments in years to come as
parts become smaller and better. The real weak link is finding a
great speaker that will give good bass tones and still be under an
inch in diameter so you can fit it into an HO loco!
