Um, when I was a kid we did shit like locking my brother and his
friends in each others lockers so that they had to yell out their
combinations to passers-by in order to get out again. Basically the
same thing, no?

Seven 16-17 year olds on one 13 year old isn't fair at all, plus it seems they've been picking on
him for some time. It being de rigeur nowadays to use your mobile phone to record shit, these
bullies have handed the cops all the evidence they need, the dumbasses.

I'm no expert in the field, but on-going bullying does seem to have long-term effects on some people.

A simple birching of the offenders in the town square would seem to be a sufficient punishment, woud
it not?

Well, duh, but back in my day it wouldn't really have been much to
worry about. "Fair" had nothing to do with it when we locked the
smaller kids in their lockers, in fact, the less fair it was the
better, that's why we did it to smaller kids FFS!

I don't think experts in the field are experts in the field either.

Honestly I don't even know these days. Is it assault? By law, clearly
it is. What should the consequences be? I don't know. Somehow a
criminal record, even a juvenile one, seems to be overkill. But at the
same time if it's ongoing bullying of a vulnerable kid, then yeah,
*something* should be done.

This wasn't a harmless prank; they terrorized the poor kid for 20 mins.

Bullshit. Dial 911.

I am sure if someone had stepped up those cowards would have pissed off.

I have stopped a few incidents by showing my mobile saying I have called
the police.

Surprising how fast they pissed off.

No, they've been doing it to the poor kid for a while, they beat him
pretty good, and they kept it up for 20 mins culminating with hanging
him on the fence. I'm not a fan of bullies.

The only REAL experts, as far as realising the effects of bullying,
are the victims of bullying. As a victim oft-times in my youth, I can
assure you that in some cases bullying does produce a lifelong effect.
I have learned to manage it...to contol these effects...to some
significant extent. Neverthless these skeletons can still raise their
ugly, UGLY heads at moments of stress and tension. You're dealt the
cards...all you can do is learn the game and play the bestest way you
can...

I gave my son the following advice this week about bullies. If he is bigger
than you just hit him in the balls and keep hitting him until someone pulls you
off. I figure it is a bit easier than teaching him how to jump to guard. And
six year olds generally don't have knock out power. : )

Might wanna actually watch the video. They beat on the kid for over
twenty minutes before hanging him on the fence.

Seven kids on one - and a smaller one at that. They absolutely
deserve to have their asses kicked.

Ordinarily I am all for kids sticking up for themselves and fighting
their own battles; but this case crossed the line. Seven cowards
beating on a kid who was smaller than any one of them, for twenty
minutes, for no reason. And based on what's come out since the
initial report, they've been picking on this kid and others like him
for some time now.

In a perfect world, all seven of them would be taken out back and
beaten until they couldn't stand up anymore. But I'd settle on seeing
them do time.
