It's the part where he makes actual fist-to-face contact that has them
confused.

Nah, it's just that in Shotokan all the moves are deadly; and since
none of Machidas opponents have died, it looks nothing like Shotokan.

Far be it from me to speak on Rob's behalf, but I don't think he would
claim Shotokan is t3h d3dl33 0n t3 str33t!

Is the Velociraptor toenail of death move actually banned in MMA?

i think it is fair to say that a ufc fighter who could use headbutts, eye
gouges, bites, groin shots and knives in addition to their mma skills would
be more effective.
but then the ufc is a sport these days. so....

No, he probably would not.

I just find it funny when guys who do not fight, do not train to
fight, and really have no interest in fighting, start preaching about
what works in a fight. I also find it funny when they go on about how
a real fight doesn't look like what they do when they practice. No
shit; you're not fighting!

If he actually went out and found a Shotokan school where people
*were* fighting (and they actually do exist) then he'd notice that
they look a lot more like Machida than do the folks at his school.

Knives is of course ridiculous, and eye gouges have the potential for too
much permanent injury, but I don't really think bites, headbutts, or groin
shots would change much and would hope they would be included someday, along
with small joint manipulation.

Eye gouges

The better fighter would be in the better position to use EMFG, bites
etc.

Yup. Royce showed that in the early UFCs.

If one wishes for instruction in the EMFG, bites, groin-grabs and many
other assorted nasties, you go to someone like Gene LeBell or John
Donehue, not Mr Myagi.

the way i see it, the ufc is a way for a fighter to demonstrate their
fighting skills - not their avoid death on the street skills.
no matter how skilled you are, no matter how much you train, your balls are
your balls - they take a hit, they hurt.
i could kick fedor in the balls if he let me and it would hurt him a lot -
regardless of me having no fight training whatsoever.

The Romans saw it differently.

Unless you are a enuch.

Let me - are key words in that sentence.

It's a sport, and some things are just dirty...
arm bars and kicks to the head are ok,
but biting, groin shots, and finger bites are
not... no one will do them in the ring, and
certainly no one will train them at home.

Some banned move should be re-instated,
though... knee to a down opponent should
be legit, it's natural... I think it's the
anti-Mark Coleman rule...

John is a simply awesome martial artist, one of the 'Dirty Dozen' of

The thing is that, IME, you need a lot more than just "hurt" to end a
fight. I've fought through groin shots and a broken hand, and that's
with no training at all; pure adrenaline.

First kickboxing fight I did I came out of my corner, trew a
roundhouse kick and hit his elbow with my instep. A combination of bad
technique from my side (no set-up + kick angled upwards + not hitting
with shin) and goud counter by the oppont (block with elbow)

It did hurt somwhat but I kept going and kicking for 3 rmore rounds
without too much problems. Afterwards my foot was x-rayed and
diagnosed as broken. Walked around in a cast for 6 weels. Broken bones
hurt in a fight, but I don't think they necessarily change the
outcome.

In MMA I strongly believe that the guy that gets the best
opportunities to groinkick, or headbutt, or iPoke, or bite is the guy
that is the better fighter with the better positioning and the better
movement/distancing skills anyway. Nasty tricks just give the better
fighter more tools to finish the job, they will do very little to
protect the other guy.
