Any suggestions for good art from Japanese culture (preferably historical)
that would work in a logo?
In August our club is moving to a new dojo and we've opened up the floor
for new logos. Having desinged three or four for Native American Student
Associations at different colleges, and having had them all purchase, I
thought I would give this a try... only problem is I don't have much
base experience from which to draw on for any dragons or other creatures
from historical and mythical context of Japan.

Any good books with plenty of drawings etc would be appreciated.
There are GOOD libraries within driving distance, so if I can get the
ISBN numbers I could probably get any books quickly.

Jim,

You might look at Crest designs. They are a lot like the coat of
arms in europe. Not sure of what references to give you. I have seen
books on the subject.

The crest I use is from my mother's family. It is related to the
Fujiwara crest: wisteria leaves curving downward.
