When I went out looking for a good martial arts shoe, my Chinese
friend who runs a small import store and supplies MA equipment to
local students and dojos told me that all the Otomix stuff stinks
because it does not last. He told me that he preferred to hunt around
the better mainstream brands like Nike, Reebok, Asics, etc., until he
found a low shoe that allowed good ankle flexibility and good grip
without "sticking." Any pair of these, he told me, would cost the
same as an Otomix martial arts shoe, do the same thing, and last twice
as long. I never asked him about Pine Tree, but I did get the idea
from him that he had never found a decent martial arts shoe that was
billed as a martial arts shoe.
-- I've got a pair of Adidas TKD shoes, a pair of the Century name brand
shoes & a pair of Asics wrestling shoes. Out of all of the, the TKD allow the
flex I need in my feet & ankles, the Asics the ankle support I need. But the
Adidas & Century's are low tops & the Asics have TOO much grip & traction.
The Century shoes have just the right amount of traction to keep you from
falling but not so much that when sliding into a low bow stance your feet
stick & you destroy body parts. If I could get a pair with raw leather on the
bottom & break them in properly that's the ideals sole I've found so far.
But.... I haven't found a pair of MA shoes with that kinda sole yet. tops

Oh, yes, let me amend my statement. When I asked my friend about
shoes, neither he nor I knew that Adidas had produced a martial arts
shoe. In fact, this interchange may have occurred before the Adidas
shoe was on the market at all. I'm not sure when it made its debut.
try out a pair of wrestling shoes..
designed for the same kinda thing.. If you kick a bag real hard a lot they
will split at the seams, sometimes..
