For those who might be interested. These two guys, Lionel Chetwynd and
Roger L Simon, discuss the movies of the last decade and why they don't
measure up to the motion pictures of the 1950's. Nice discussion.

Disagree " The Godfather" was made in 1972. At the time it was made no one
was going to see movies. The movie industry thought no one could lure people
away from tv. Someone got the bright idea that maybe if a good movie was
made people could be lured back to the movies. Hence "The Godfather" was
made. And the movie industry learned that people do go see good movies.
They seem to have forgotten that again.
I believe Gulf and Western Industries made the movie.

But it was the need for a good movie that brought it to the fore. And
I think their point was the sheer number of good movies, that existed
then.... do you think the 70's matches the 50's quality and quantity of
quality movie's...?

There's great and crap movies from every decade; the 50s sure had its share of stinkers.

In IMDB's' Bottom 100' the top four "Worst Movies of All Time" were made in the 50s.

Three of IMBD's top 20 were made in the 50s, four in the noughties.

YMMV of course...

Any top list that has Schindler's List in it immediately loses all
credibility. That simply was not that good of a movie.

As an aside, I watched 4 months, 3 weeks, 2 days this weekend...there
is simply no comparison in terms of the level of acting. You couldn't
have had a more stripped down set and budget than that film, yet the
actors even with silence could have you on the edge of your seat. If
anyone wants to see what acting is, watch that film.
