Hi guys. I just bought a KABAR USMC, cuz I wanted to own I neat
looking knife (deplorable, isn't it?). Anyway, then I was reading that
you're not supposed to throw knives that aren't made for throwing.
Bummer. So what would happen if I threw it? It looks quite sturdy.
Would it really be damaged? I just wanted to set up a piece of wood in
my apartment and pretend I'm a badass throwing my knife at it and
trying to get it to stick. Do any of you do that kind of thing, or why
not?

Yeah!
Go ahead and do it......just make sure you have enough money to
replace the knife when you have broken it.
I mean....there is every chance you will damage it. The tip, at least.

But, yes....most of us have done that sort of thing.
When we were your age.

When I was about thirteen, I did some throws with my older brother's
precious Puma.
Snapped the tip and put it back in the sheath.
I got lucky.
Mick dropped the knife on the steel deck of the dredge he worked on.
He thought that's how the tip broke off.
Never had the courage to tell him what I had done.

Shame!

I wouldn't be throwing in an apartment. if you intnd to throw it at
something, use a cardboard box filled with mor cardboard. there will be
less chance of damaging your knife when hitting the target. Now you might
(and probably will) damage it on the floor, furniture, wall, or damage
those things.

Be careful.

ok thanks :)

Do you think the tip would probably break off, or how could it be
damaged otherwise? Would it bend?

More of a second childhood really, but I skipped the boring part in
the middle ;)

That's a good idea. Maybe some material a little harder than cardboard
but softer than wood would be even better. Maybe some kind of hard
rubber.

I owned a genuine USMC Kabar knife for a while (finally gave it to a

you could hurt it by throwing it in your apartment. have at it.

My brother bought me a kabar when he was in boot camp long ago. They are
pretty good "camp" knives that can take a lot of abuse but the heat
treating is all wrong for a throwing blade.

Throwing knives are heat treated like springs if they have any heat
treat ment at all.

Maybe you could pick up a some mild steel and file out a throwing knife.

So Brian, is your brother still alive (fingers crossed)?
How about surprising him with a new "surprise" knife?

Maybe something a little nicer than ordinary? With
an explanation.

Thanks for the info. I was just watching a youtube vid of a guy
throwing knives, screwdrivers, forks, etc. and making them all stick.
Pretty amazing. He probably woundn't have much trouble with a Kabar -

My suggestion is DON'T throw knives in your apartment unless you don't
mind replacing lots of stuff, refinish floors, etc. Especially as a
beginner, you're likely to have more not stick than otherwise. Wait for
a nice sunny day and find a nice, secluded spot somewhere outdoors. It
will be easier on the knife and easier on the pocketbook. Soft wood,
like pine, is a great target...

Yeah, throw it hard, bounce the butt off that rubber, and watch it fly back
towards you at speed you'd never expect it to ;-)

It aired on the History Channel but someone put it in 12 parts on
youtube. "From peyote to lsd". Search that and you should find it no
problem
