Here is a liner lock work knife that I finished yesterday. It is a
little bit of a cheat as I used a cheap commercial knife for a basis
and replaced the original stainless blade with one made from high
speed steel.
Originally it had a very nicely polished blade but in putting an edge
on it I scratched it rather severely. Oh well, it is just a work knife
:-)

I have no problem with cheating if a) it is admitted, and b) the end-result
is superior in some way to the original.
Does it cut?

Pretty well. I've made a bunch of knives from HSS hacksaw blades and
they work out pretty well for work knives - stripping wire one time
and slicing glass cloth at another. My experience is to sharpen them
with a medium grit and just use them. I tried honing and honing until
I got a real polished "razor" edge and that didn't seem to hold up
well - but maybe it was me.

I've only seen the "name brand" US made knives in the very up market
department stores with prices to match. $100+ to buy a knife to slice
glass with? I just make my own.

cheers,
