There are several different ways to grind the blade of a knife... Hollow,
Flat, Convex, Sabre, Chisel, etc etc...
Hollow Ground knives are shaped like two concave archs...coming to an edge.
It makes the edge of the knife ultra thin. The Hollow grind is generally
speaking the sharpest of all the grinds, but also the weakest. Spyderco's
knives are primarily Hollow Ground, with a few models available in Flat
grinds... you can probably find info on this at the FAQ's on bladeforums.com
they're pretty good.

the reason for the question. I just got an Edgepro Apex and was
wondering whether it's easier to rest the knife on the "facet" that
some of my knives have, that leads down to the edge, or the flat part
along the back of the blade. I thought maybe that having such a facet
was the characteristic of "hollow ground".
thanks for the replies.

The classic Buck folder has a hollow-ground blade. Old shaving razors (the
kind you can kill someone with, grimly described) are extremely hollow
ground.

Even further off topic - except that it perhaps
gives them an extra 'edge' in court cases, is the
story/claim that some Australian Aborigines carry a few
bits of rock around in their car, ready to create an
instant 'sacred site' when they find somewhere they
want to stay.
Maybe an Australian group member can confirm or
deny this story?
