If you like good acts or hula-hoops read on:
I hate Britons Got Talent almost as much as I love Hooplala. They are
through to the next round of BGT and of course their feature has been
instantly youtubed 50 times over.
Have a gander at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4LQEr838VII
They also have a website at http://www.hooplala.co.uk/
Enjoy!

Hehe, thanks for that Arron.
I completely agree with your views on BGT - I have never bothered watching
it, or any other 'reality' tv. Simon Cowell is such a cock - I know this
is the role he is supposed to play, but I think there's a reason for that.
Great fun act.
Jason.
I completely agree and know that they are all a farce. The best acts they
get on there are scouted out to come on the show and are not at all as
they make it out to be.
Still though...its great TV
I lol'd.
Unfortunately, there is so much time spent with listening to the
judges and interviewing the people that you don't get to see many
acts.
The only way I can watch these shows is to record them and fast
forward past all the babbling. It takes about 30 minutes to watch a 2
hour show.
But it took 4 minutes to watch a 1 minute show.
You mean, it took 4 minutes to watch 1 minute of a 7 minute show, made for
live performance, edited
and hacked up for bad TV, and reduced to low quality as an internet clip?
Rastelli wept...
Best regards,
(The (keeping it) Real) Luke
Fab thanks.
No...it isn't!
Jason.
There are probably hordes of variety performers alive right now who are
none to happy about it ;-)
Personally, I watch Britain's Got Talent, and do you know what? I enjoy it.
Does that make me some brain-dead couch potato who is totally lacking in
cultcha? I hope not.
Before BGT can you name a single TV programme[1] that showcases variety
performances? I admit, most of the show is geared towards car-crash TV,
however, it does reveal a few gems.
It is a shame that there is not other (TV) outlet for talented variety
performers, however I would still prefer to see them on BGT than not at
all.

Colin E.
.......
[1] Actually, there is one. The Slammer. It is a fine piece of TV. To be
honest, I think Childrens television is much less fomulaic and fresh than
the reality-tv-by-numbers Adults programming.
There is of course Le Plus Grand Cabaret du Monde, which regularly
features the best variety performers from around the world (seriously,
everyone's been on that show)... but it's in French and mostly aired in
France (although you can get it in Quebec with satellite and possibly
cable...). They don't even make fun or belittle the performers...
In a related note my roommate was a finalist on the French version of
Britan/America's Got Talent, Incroyable du Talent
(http://www.m6.fr/html/emissions/incroyabletalent2007/videos/player.php?idVideo=incroyabletalen__barrerusse__20071212__8218D81B)

PS the skinnier base in the trio can qualify seven clubs and run five club
bx.
I'll assume you mean "apart from" rather than "before" as the way you
phrased the question it's too easy to answer. variety performers were
all over TV like a rash in the 60s/70s/80s
So apart from BGT and the slammer (which is the best of the bunch if
you ask me), what have we got?
Well there's the Royal Variety Performance (if a one-a-year special
which is tending towards comedians and pop music counts, although there
are usually at least 2 spesh acts)
Channel 5 occasionally trot out a Cirque movie/performance/that odd
special they did fronted by Dale Winton.
Then there was "when will I be famous" last year, I'm hoping they do
another run of that one, as the format was a lot more act-friendly
and had more in common with Opportunity Knocks than X-Factor.
You also get the occasional glimpse of a spesh act on the Paul O'Grady
show (although it does involve sitting through the Paul O'Grady show)
Obviously we're nowhere near the heady days of Paul Daniels/Opportunity
Knocks/Wheeltappers/Ronn Lucas/Wayne Dobson/Secret Cabaret etc. But
variety does seem to be making a bit of a comeback at the moment.

Personally I like it - I love the bad acts and I love the chance to at
least see some juggly acts on TV.
I'm not too sure I liked the quote that "only jugglers enjoy watching
jugglers" - especially as my wife keeps quoting it at me now !
fak
Simon Cowell really thought it was dangerous! What a pussy!
fak - assassin.
> I'm not too sure I liked the quote that "only jugglers enjoy watching
> jugglers" - especially as my wife keeps quoting it at me now !
Yeah that really annoyed me, I had forgotten about that, but I managed to
get over that after the next person to make a fool of themself.
On a less juggly topic, did anyone see that Michael Jackson - Banghra act?
Its act's like that which keep me watching.
I haven't seen it, but based on the description of the act given me by
a mate in the pub, I'm pretty sure it would have been Phil Blackmore
http://www.philblackmore.co.uk/
Oh yes it is.
Sorry, that's pantomime
Is there a difference?
Lynne
Yes it was (I didn't mention his full name since he hadn't yet).
So I did get it right then.
Phil, your act is clearly so memorable that the general public
can remember enough of it for me to identify you based on a pub
conversation! Nice one!
..and here's the video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nrr_BTDoRr8
I love the fact that that idiot Cowell (and the other presenters)
completely buys in to the danger element of the act. 'If he falls on one
of those knives, it's all over' & 'you fall off, you're dead'. LMAO!
Well done Phil!
Jason.
