Hi guys,

it's that time of year again, fun in the "sun", cool swimming, sleeping on
the beach, and of course the, optional, naked sauna area ;)

That's right Tropical Island Invasion is back, a mid-week gathering where
jugglers take over the Tropical Island Resort which is just south of
Berlin.

Unfortunately, since last year they changed the prices, although it is
still a fantastic deal. Here's the website:
http://www.tropical-islands.de/

So to counter the rise in prices, i will attempt to get a group discount,
but i need to be able to give an estimate on numbers coming.

So lets try to get a lot of people signed up :)

This is a thread just to get numbers of people interested. Proposed dates
are either:
During the week starting the 4th Jan 2010
Or
During the week starting the 1st Feb 2010

So reply if you're interested, say which dates you're free for. I'll try
to make it suit as many people as possible :)

Paddy

I vote for the first week of February since I wouldn't be able to attend
in early January and that it's
more close to the times of last two years.

I did a little research
[1] As opposed to the free overnighting in the previous years it's now 10
euros each additional night
to sleep on the beach. Actually it just says "per night" so hopefully
they still allow you to bring a
sleeping bag and sleep on the beach. I just emailed them to ask. Maybe
it wouldn't hurt if somebody
else did as well. That would suck if it wasn't allowed anymore when we
got there.

[2] For a combipass which gives you access to the sauna area and the giant
truman show area it's 30
euros. Last year there was coincidentally a special going on at kaisers
where 3 or 4 (i forget exactly
how many) milks would get you a coupon for a free entry with someone who
paid. That would be
cool if something like that would happen again : )

The difference between the last years and this year is going to be the
price increase.
Without the milk deal it was 30ish euros for as many days as you could
handle and with the milk deal
it was 15! Now if you plan to go early on Monday and stay until late on
Wednesday it will be 50 euros.

If you go in a group of more than 20 people it's 27.50 each (see[2]) plus
10 per night.

I thought we might be able to get some food tickets or a discount on entry
or free overnigting... or
something : ) if we organized a show that tropical islands could
advertise to the public. With actual
organizing of a show and negotiating prices on the phone or emails I
decided it was too much work
for me at the moment. I wasn't even going to present the idea of Tii3
until Paddy emailed me and
showed so much enthusiasm. Also when discussing it in here in Berlin many
people became very
excited that it could happen again.

It's actually a great place for a convention. Wake up, hit the water
slides, do some juggling, hit the
various saunas and steam rooms, do some juggling, hit the various hot
tubs, do some juggling, go
swimming, do some juggling, check out the turtles, do some juggling, watch
the renegade and go to
sleep...

thanks Paddy for pushing this to happen this year.

I was thinking to make a stamp that says INVADED 2010 and just to stamp
that on whatever you buy
as a convention shirt or towel or cup... maybe a stencil... anyhow...

Good luck Paddy and Co.

Daniel

My semester break begins on February 5th... so I'd like to vote for the
second option, but in actuality, I'll probably be taking final exams at
that time.

I would love to go to this...don't think it really matters which option
you take for me.

Just a quick shout out to say thanks to Daniel for the research and
precise information :)

Also a stamp/stencil would be awesome!

Hey, the NUIG crowd are definitely interested in going again. I'm gonna
talk to
the rest of them during the week to see which date they thinks better,
those
I've talked to so far think the first might be better cus it means missing
no
college though...just registering interest for now anyway, we're
definitely
going on a foreign trip and a repeat of last year's would be pretty good
:)
Should be 15-20 of us this time..

Hey Dave! Enjoy Tralee?

Most people I know seem to be opting for the February choice(see & vote on
http://www.emeraldcircus.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=696&start=0). I'm
technically free both times, but I reckon the first week in Jan might be
busier there due to Xmas holidays and stuff, and also I don't want to be
worrying about packing and stuff for New Years...
Also, DCU will have exams to worry about in Jan...

Thanks to Stephen for the video, it was great!

Now is the time to choose the dates, and unfortunately for those who
wanted January, i have to go with February, more people want it.

So the invasion will be on from the 2nd feb to the 4th feb inclusive. So
that's tuesday to thursday. A nice 3 day convention in the midweek so that
it's not too crowded.

I will almost definitely be there for longer than 3 days and would highly
recommend other people to do the same as you will never want to leave!!

This below post is last year's link as i have lost my laptop and have very
little access to the computer :(
THESE DATES ARE NOT THE SAME and THE MILK OFFER IS NOT ON AGAIN
http://web.me.com/shultzdaniel/T2/T2.html

The only other difference is that you now do have to pay for overnight.
10euro per night. But it's worth it!
Also please if you have any comments or queries please email me at

this is not double posting

I was wondering if people would be interested in paying a small convention
fee so that we could get some professionals out there?

Judging from the replies and the people i've been speaking to, we should
be able to get over 100 people, which would be fantastic.

I was thinking of asking maybe Wes Peden if he's in europe and maybe
thomas dietz, who lives in germany and also ask at the katakomben if
they've got any performers intersted.

Opinions?

one last message

Just to clarify, the convention fee would be strictly to cover performers.
This is 100% non-profit. Any money that goes over what the performers need
i will see is returned

Just a quick word to say that last year I stayed over on the Friday night
and the mood of the place changed dramatically, it was far far busier, so
bear that in mind if you're thinking of staying on. Mid-week was very
quiet however.

I doubt I'll be there, have a great time if you're planning on going.

I made the mistake last year of not bringing in ANY food or water, food
was fairly pricy but the bottled water was around 5 euro for just under a
litre, so I'd strongly recommend taking this in with you. You can fill
your bottle from the tap, but it didn't taste great.

Over 100 people. That's great.

After paying 50+ euros for Doreen and I individually I think I'm strapped
for any more.
If you intend to organize a proper show with lighting, sound, an MC, the
use of a tropical island stage,
various acts, etc then I would suggest you make Tropical Islands an offer
so that they could pay the
artists way at least into the convention + food + some arbitrary amount of
cash. If they did this then
they could organize advertisements to bring people in on the weekday
etc... which also means they'd
probably keep a retainer incase we didn't bring enough people in to
support the costs of the show. I
thought maybe it would be too late for this kind of endeavor, but maybe
it's not.

Just some thoughts. I'm not terribly excited to pay 3 times the price of
the last 2 years. Also
remember that even the side stage at TI is not free for all. You'll have
to organize that with them.

just my 2 cents.
In any case one can't help but be curious as to the outcome of every
invasion : )

keep on keep'n on,
Daniel

Ok so just to clarify and bring this back to the top of the forum:

Tropical Island Invasion III is an event listed in the ijdb here:
http://www.jugglingdb.com/events/index.php?id=7635&add=true

The dates are up but to clarify it will be 2nd-4th February inclusive.

I highly recommend people to come as it is an amazing holiday :)

I am about to contact them about the following, but it says on the website
that you can stay there without the overnight charge up til 1st Feb
(non-inclusive)

So i think that staying there on sunday night 31st of jan should be no
extra charge if anyone is interested in some extra fun :)

Also i would like to confirm what someone said above, the atmosphere does
change a LOT at the weekend. I think sunday night should be grand and i
know during the week will be, but just as a word of warning to people
thinking of staying on :)

I fixed the URL... the one you provided was set such that clicking would
add a person to the list of attendees. (Assuming one was logged into
jugglingdb at the time.)

Great!

It's looking like there'll be 23 of us from Galway this year, those of us
who
made the trip last time must have done a good job selling it!

Can't wait!

Hi guys just a reminder that this event is coming up soon, but there's
still time to arrange coming. You won't regret it :)

A few things of note:

YOU CAN'T BRING YOUR OWN TENT
You can choose to sleep on the beach or deckchairs for free
Matresses for rent for about 2 euro a night (recommended)
There are big beds (Lots of matresses put together in the smoking room,
although there's not much smoking) which can be great free sleeping,
although a little bit too hot.

You can rent a teepee or better accommodation there, although it will cost
extra obviously:
http://www.tropical-islands.de/en/visitors/overnight-stay/staying-the-night-in-the-dome.html
(sorry that wouldn't all fit in one line (?))

I would advise against sleeping bags, i think they're too much of a
nuisance. If you bring a sheet or a hoodie and tracksuit pants, you should
be fine. Temperatures are mainly around 20 degrees or higher.

Bring a pillow or spare clothes to use as a pillow

Don't pack too many clothes, they won't be used. Bring a few pairs of
swimming togs (if you want)

A towel is quite handy although you dry off very quickly

Have loads of fun :)

Hope to see you all there :)

Unfortunately someone has just pointed out to me that german schools are
on their
holidays at the time of this invasion and as such it may be busier than we
had hoped :(

Sorry about this. I knew that they would be back at the start of january
after christmas, but i'm very surprised that they get a week off again
after only 4 weeks back.

Unfortunately due to people boking flights, i can't change the date so
close to the time. I apologize for the inconvenience
