I'm looking into buying a set of 5 LED glow clubs. I don't really want to
fork out the $$ for the k8 clubs (ouch!). I have seen a few other LED
clubs out there for ~$30 a club. Such as the the renegade website and rave
(?) clubs (same ones? its not clear).

Any thoughts on the differences/benefits on these clubs.

Has anyone tried the cheaper clubs and can comment?

Thanks!

Check out "Neon Husky." I have been very pleased with both styles of their
clubs. Pretty bright and tough - but they do use up the batteries :-(

In my opinion you really don't want to go for any of the LED clubs (or LED
balls and probably any LED juggling equipment) which use button batteries.

They're not very bright and I have found the switches to be unreliable, to
say the least.

I would disagree with that (at least in terms of balls), I've been using
glow balls that use LR44 batteries for years and they are just as bright
as rechargeable ones. I would, however, suggest getting primary coloured
ones (Red, Yellow and Blue) as they do tend to be brighter than
non-primaries.

ball -ivano

In this particular case, primary might refer to the light coming
directly from the semiconductor. In that case, secondary would refer
to the ones where they cover a blue LED with a fluorescent substance,
which gets bombarded with blue-to-UV light from the LED and reradiates
the desired color of light.

The color emitted directly by a light emitting diode is related to the
bandgap of the junction, and we only know how to make those for
certain colors. The others have to do the phosphor thing.

That's my guess, anyway.

If I were you, I would continue saving for the k8 clubs. Renegade offered
our local juggling group a matching competitor discount for a set of their
LED glow clubs but there were very upfront about the non-durability over
hard surfaces. The set we purchased with the ALL LIGHT system didn't get
much use before becoming rendered useless because the screw-on/off
switches would backout and fall off during the course of use. Once they
fell off the club, they got trampled in the dark by party-goers. No hard
feelings against Renegade as they have consistently provided great
products, service, and honest sales advice; but you get what you pay for
and in the long run, I think the K8 clubs are reasonable.

Hey, if you are still in the market for glow clubs there is an Australian
company called Concentrate making a new " Aurora" glow club. A fair few
performers, including me, are using these and finding them solid with some
good effects. You can check them out here:

I think Oddballs in the Uk are a distributor for them as well
