I am getting good a 5 balls now and can do a little bit of 6 with my SIL-X
balls which I think are great but
do you guys think that they would be ok for learning 7 balls when I get
round to it or are beanbags the
only way to go?

I have seen a few people using them but ime not sure if it is a good idea
to LEARN 7 balls with them
rather than using them when you already can juggle 7.

I think the problems will be catching and releasing 4 from my right hand???

My book "Juggling with Finesse" shows how to release 4 and/or 5 balls
out of one hand, have you seen the book?
I was never liking bean bags, before the advent of silicone balls,
lacrosse balls for me.

When I started with seven, I used very saggy beanbags but then switched to
silx because I got them
for my birthday :)
I'm using the diamond grip to release 4balls, releasing the top one first;
That was never a problem for
me, but i can imagine if youre using a different grip there is the
possibility for it to get hairy. Catching
was a bigger problem though; the last ball often bounces off the others
but I kinda got used to it,
most of the times catching the last ball with both hands or sometimes as a
pyramid in my right or
when I get really nasty I try to catch it in my favorite diamond, which is
the hardest I think.
All in all I see no problem using silx for learning seven, for me it was
only a matter of getting used to
it.

I learned 7 with MMX balls, and then switched to Sil-X, I love them. They
look great. If you are talking about the 3 inch Sil x, I guess most people
would suggest to use a smaller ball. But I like big balls, so I say go
for it, you will get used to it, and personally I think big balls with
bring you to a wonderful world of tricks.

I'm using custom silx. They are srx shells, but with liquid silicone
instead of sand. 80mm 110g. quite light, like russians. I'm using these
because i prefer a lighter ball for numbers, and they are easy to catch.
they do take a few throws to adjust to. I can throw the normal silx, but
catching 7 is harder. and I don't want to strain too much, juggling 7
normal 80mm silx for an hour and I'm feeling it already.

I agree with much of what you say here. I used to use 2.5 inch bean bags
for all of my juggling but I was given a big batch of russians from a
buddy and have never wanted another ball for regular practice since.

I tried the silx balls as well. I enjoyed them for three ball tricks and
five balls as well but when it came to pushing it into seven balls I
started to have some trouble. I was using the same size as my russians ( 3
inch ) but I found the balls stuck in my hands quite a bit. Perhaps they
just needed to be broken in a bit more because they were quite new but I
wasn't feeling the seven at all in comparison to the russians.

I'd not throw the idea out the window though. I say do it and tell us how
it goes. I may invest in a set for the fun of it.

I am not sure about inches I use the 67mm type and I think they are great!
For those of you who had
another type of ball and then switched to SIL-X how long into the learning
stage were you or were you
solid when you switched??
