It's even worse than you can possibly imagine:

Thats all Italy's fault :P
http://www.google.com/insights/search/#cat=570&q=poi%20%2C%20juggling&cmpt=q
Currently it looks like they will intersect around 2012. Coincidence?
that is super funny. i mean a graph chart?! for poi?! whats more...
new zealand, the cultural home of POI, is not even listed.
Maybe it means the Mayans were misunderstood. They might have meant
the world won't actually end in 2012, but rather, that, when poi
overtakes juggling, it won't make any difference whether it will end
or not, so you might as well toss your calendar.
-boppo
That seems fairly reasonable to me.
Sondre
Well, maybe this is an indicator that people have learned how to by now

I am not suprised that the USA is a top result for a WJF search. But this
link
http://www.google.com/insights/search/#q=world%20juggling%20federation%2Cjason%20garfield&cmpt=q
shows Jason is more popular than his creation. Come on world! Sort
yourself out!!
LOL
> shows Jason is more popular than his creation.
I thought it was interesting that it accurately had a spike at the release
(March 10, 2006) of the Chris Bliss Diss. Garfield did ride the coattails
of Chris Bliss, but that popularity has disappeared for both of them. They
may both still be getting some benefits from that period, though.
Dave Altman
Comparing certainly put it in perspective for me, one is a little bump and
the other is a big dildo.

Statistics are easy to misinterpret. Unless you know exactly how it was
calculated they are almost meaningless other than as fun conversation
starters or rhetorical tricks.
Is juggling dying? Look at this:
http://www.google.com/insights/search/#q=computers&cmpt=q
Based on this "statistic" computers are dropping in popularity fast. So
don't expect to see anyone using computers by 2012.
Or ... there might be more to the issue than shown by the simplistic graph.
Dave
I have an idea.
Let's all start googling "juggling" at least fifty times every day from
now on.
Should fix the problem pretty easily.
Sondre
As a lark, I did another comparison. I did get a laugh out of it. Some of
you might think this is funny, too.

I also what to thank Jonathan for this "new toy." I believe it is a
helpful marketing tool, if used correctly.
Dave Altman
Perhaps because the word computer is gradually being replaced by more
specific words - try laptop.
thought you usually did that anyway sondre
:P
Al
If I'm reading the chart right, that spike was at the end of 2005 to the
beginning of 2006. I just picked something off of the top of my head to
see how it compared to juggling. I selected something that wasn't vastly
popular, but most people have heard of it. The results surprised me,
though. It doesn't seem like there should be a reason for it to be jumping
all over place like that. Maybe I'll do the comparison between horse shoes
and juggling.

I agree. That was my point. Many general terms have same basic trend as
"juggling" which probably says more about internet search savvy than the
popularity of the general terms field. I know I haven't done a search for
just plain "juggling" in years.

I don't know.
But the strong upward rtend of

is plainly reliable and relevant evidence in this debate.

Semper eadem.
In May 2009, Jogglers were more popular the Jugglers
http://www.google.com/insights/search/#q=joggler%2Cjuggler&cmpt=q
(Let's pretend that some company didn't launch an electronic gadget
called the Joggler)
:)))
I'll try to improve statistics too:)
Yeah, see, I wrote "let's ALL.."

Yeah, as if you aren't aware that there are way more Swedes to google
skgg than Norwegians to google skjegg... I bet you guys are doing it more
for instructions on how to grow a good Norwegian beard than to get to see
nice ones already grown out, anyway...!
Sondre
Speaking of which, this graph is interesting
http://www.google.com/insights/search/#q=norsk%2Csvensk&cmpt=q notice that
there are still way less Norwegians than Swedes. Makes us have way more
searches per citizen than you..
Sondre
It helps if you don't write Swedish in Norwegian:

Google Insights is a fun little toy. I noticed that other people are
playing with it, too.
I came up with a game. I was trying to "light up" certain countries, for
example, I wanted to highlight Australia, so I typed in "kangaroos" I
typed in "oil fields" and of course, the US lit up, all by itself.
It would be interesting to see what English words would light up each
country or region. Using other languages would be too easy, as some people
have discovered already. If anyone comes up with a funny or interesting
combination, please post them.

This one surprised me, I was going for Iceland:

Hmm.. Icelandic isn't quite English though.
Sondre
It's closer than Hindi

There's no country that's got a larger English speaking population than
India and Hindi is only one of the many Indian languages.
