Momma has decided it's time I see "Sin City". Being the 50 something
curmudgeon, I'd much rather be tromping the fields looking for pheasants.

Have found a few things to do other than gawk at boobs and walk through
smoke filled casinos seeing the public drool over cash wasted by the
high rollers. Boy that last one REALLY impresses me. DOWN GREEN EYED
MONSTER; DOWN!!!!!

Any firearms related activities such as old gun shops where you can
scrounge parts, museums of other than late 1800's American West? Firing
a full auto ain't anything new, so that activity can be bypassed also.

I enjoyed a day bus trip from Vegas out to the Grand Canyon - about 5
hours each way. Saw the biggest buck I've ever seen stopping traffic to
look at him on the way in. Would have liked to driven around there for
a couple of days. As a guy that likes to hunt, land around the Grand
Canyon was OK but around Vegas is all rocks and desert and unappealing
to me.

Vegas, itself, we did not visit the cheap spots but stayed at the
Venetian - not real cheap but special rates - and saw some top shows
within walking distance. Blue Man Group was our favorite.
Get tickets at box office for best rates.

Spent little time gambling other than the comps given by the hotel.

Gun and hunting related

Bass Pro Shop if you haven't been there. They are in the south side of
the Silverton Casino on Blue Diamond Road.

Wild West Guns just opened up a shop on Wynn Road. They build the
Alaskan Co-Pilot rifle based on the Marlin Lever guns. ADDRESS: 5225
Wynn Rd, Las Vegas, NV 89118 . They also feature a decent selection of
better to premium quality guns.

If you want to gun shop it is doable for long guns if your state of
residency allows out of state purchases. Discount Firearms had decent
prices and inventory when I was there last. There are others; let me
know and I'll give you some names.

What are your firearm interests?

Just plain sight seeing

Hoover Dam is an interesting site. You might be able to take a tour
into the dam and see how it is built. You can go out to the marinas on
Lake Mead and feed the fish. Buy a large bag of popcorn in town since
it is cheaper than at the lake.

Red Rock Canyon is on Charleston Blvd leaving town to the west. Nice
scenery. Take a drive from Charleston down to Blue Diamond and there
is a tourist tyope shop that sells cactus pottery and glass you might
find interesting. The Grand Canyon is close enough for a flight. You
can go by bus but it takes longer.

Anything else you are looking for? The Bellagio has a serious art
gallery and a nice fountain show. The Imperial Palace has a car
museum; I have never been there. I haven't been to the pirate show at
the Treasure Island since they made it "sexy".
