We're loosing a few more dogs that usual here in Minnesota this year.
It seems a trap called a 'Conibear 220' is doing the killing. I've
never seen a Conibear 220 before. My question is: Can you cut the
spring? I know a big bolt cutter could, but was wondering about what,
and if, a smaller tool could handle it. I'm thinking of carrying
something along when I hunt. Trappers don't mark or warn (exception
being the FS, they do post). It's really up to the dog owner. I want
to be ready if possible. From what I can gather, it seems a useless
exercise. Ok, but it will make me feel better.

I've seen the videos and read the 'how to' get a trapped dog out. But
I hear a lot of 'good luck with that'. That's the reason for the
question.

This list seems to have died.

I am not sure what you are meaning by the comments but the question
that started this thread is still available on the archives for the
list. It has not been withdrawn. Or, does it have to do with finding
the message in your newsgroup inbox? Your newsgroup server might not
hold newsgroup messages for long but mine holds the discussion groups
for about a year and the binary groups for approx 5 months. Also, the
archives for the list go back at least 15 years and contain every
message from those years.

As for the list dying it does seem to be true. Most of the usenet
discussion groups have suffered a severe drop in participation and
messages over the last 10 years. I think that most of the active
participants went over to the message boards but those are also dying
down. Their active participants seem to now be on facebook and other
social feeds where they can control who sees what they post.

Another thing that is contributing to the decline of usenet
discussion groups is that more and more people are using free access
to the internet and do not have access to usenet unless they pay for
it. It seems fewer internet service providers will have the usenet
bundled into their basic service. If someone signs up for that ISP
and they do not know about the groups then it is unlikely that they
will pay for access to the usenet.

Then, I think that some of the ISPs do not have all the groups
configured right and while their customers can see the groups they
cannot participate because their messages back to the group get misdirected.

If anyone has been trying to submit messages and they never seem to
see them show up then try sending the message by email to the
following address:
hun...@listserv.tamu.edu

Remember that the messages have to be sent as plain text. If you use
html in your eMail the msg could be stripped out by the servers
before anyone sees it.

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems but it will annoy
enough people to be worth the effort.
